  1. Photos are taken by my E71, the camera is obviously not very good. Using the Maxspect 110w G2 LED lights. The blue lights looks too blue actually. But the Timer is great. Current Livestocks 5 Common Clowns 1 Yellow Tang 4 Firedart Goby 4 Cleaner Shrimps 1 Turbo Snail 1 Brittle Star 1 dunno what crab, that makes clapping sound. Looking to add: 1 Flame Angel 1 Purple Tang Maybe looking to add 4 Royal Gramma Equipment List MP10 Vortech Wave Maker MCE 500 Return pump Ehiem 1262 Maxspect 110w G2 LED lights Filter Medium 2 kg biohomes 200g Sorb-4 500 ml Active Carbon I have got a 500ml pack of Biopellet. Will decide if i want to use it this weekend.
  2. Finally the light got to me last night... Here is some FTS...
  3. hood with cotton can prevent this scenario... last time i have a hood over the overflow. Instead of dropping into the over flow, the fish stuck on the cotton and died! hahahah ok.. being insensitive here...
  4. most fresh water fishes can do with some salt in the water... it will not be a problem at all...
  5. probably 1 carpet and 1 BTA of some sort.... haven't decided. why?
  6. I have the wire connected. am still deciding on the fan. i leave my windows open in the open when i come to work, so the house is not that hot. its not a difficult job. there is a pair of black wire that connects to the internal fan. Snip it and connect it to another 2 wires and pull it out of the chiller. So when you connect a fan to it, the 2 fans will work in tandem.
  7. Well, I think the fact of the matter is that if yo want to move your chiller out of your living room, you would have to budget for the housing, drilling a hole through the planter windows etc... etc... so really the difference is just buying a stronger pump. And to me, if i already have to spend so much money, i really won't want to save on the pump and spoil the whole set up. An alternative suggestion, which was one used by my company previously. Instead of moving the Chiller out, try moving the heat out. A tubing with a fan attached to exhaust the heat out when the chiller is working. The fan can be wired to the chiller, such that it will only work when the chiller is on. That way, once the heat is generated, it is almost immediately exhaust out of the window. This method, you will not suffer headloss. You won't run the risk of chiller being in the sun, you save money on construction of housing. What you need to do is to arrange and decorate the tube nicely, so that your wife won't kill you my 2 cents worth...
  8. Just Curious, why would microbubbles kill clams?
  9. wouldn't an easy solution be to buy a stronger pump to make up for the headloss? Just my 2 cents worth
  10. Ha ha... Thanks for all your points... I do see the logic behind it. Yep, all the filter media can go into the 3rd compartment actually. i was secretly hoping to be able to transfer everything to 3rd compartment, and maybe toy with the idea of starting a refugium in the 2nd compartment. let me run thru the evil thot in my mind first... before i embark on anything and regret later. Actually the MCE 500 is quite good. I don't see any micro bubbles coming out, but might be because i haven't been looking at it closely.
  11. Hi guys, my sump is 3 compartment. 1) where the water flows to the sump, thru a stack of wool and 2 kg of biohomes. 2) middle section, where the skimmer and also where the pump is sucking water into the chiller 3) last section, where the return pump returns the water back to the main tank, and where the chiller churn out the cold water. Question: Can i move the skimmer to the third section together with the return pump? The reason is then i woudl be able to stock up thee second section with carbon, Live Rocks and sorb-4 etc... etc... Does any one see any potential issue?
  12. Thanks HM... could you advise me of a few things? 1) for a new tank say about 3 months old. is there any danger getting a clam or an anemone? The parameters of the water is ANN = 0,0,12.5 2) What are the water parameters that i should at least maintain for anemones and clams? Thanks again!
  13. thanks 91litres... question, why is carbon important in keeping anemones and clams? i do have carbon stock up at home, i am jsut reluctant to use, coz they don't usually last very long...
  14. Step 1 Apply polishing or jeweler's rouge to a lambs wool buffing pad. You can either buff the scratch by hand using a circular motion or with an electric buffer on medium speed. Step 2 Wash the polishing compound, jeweler's rouge or whitening toothpaste off from time to time in order to check on the progress of the scratch removal. Step 3 Mix two ounces of ammonia with two quarts of water. You may want to be sure to hold your nose closed during this process! Also, always wear rubber gloves and safety goggles when working with ammonia. Step 4 Clean the glass surface with the ammonia water with a clean soft sponge. Step 5 Dry the glass with a lint free towel. If the scratches are not completely gone, they should at least be less apparent. If there is no significant difference, consider contacting a glass company to replace or rebuff the glass. Tips & Warnings Do not use abrasive household cream cleaners. Whitening toothpaste is a good alternative to polishing compound..If possible, lay the glass on a flat surface during the polishing process to provide additional support..If your fingernail can be inserted in the scratch, it is probably too deep to be buffed out..Use gentle pressure to avoid breaking the glass. It is also important that you do not use a polishing compound that is overly abrasive or you could end up damaging the glass further. 15. Hey all, i was told the lights might be coming in end of this week, which is a good news, i've been waiting for the lights since December! now i can start planning for LS that requires lights. First of all, the tank is a 3 by 1.5 by 2. Currently stock with 5 common clowns, 4 firedart, 1 6-line wrasse and 1 yellow tang. i am thinking of buying another blue tang or yellowtail tang, and another flame angel to complete the fish list. i am also thinking of buying 2 or 3 anemones eventually and maybe 3 clams. this is the hard part. 1) I don't know much about keeping anemones and clams. Especially clams, coz internet has a lot of information on anemones. 2) can anyone tell me or give me some pointers on the parameters that i need to have, before i even go and buy the anemones or clams? 3) I am using the 110 w maxspect lights. how high should i place the clams? 4) so many questions, dunno what else i need to know.. appreciate all help and advice!
  16. ok thanks Guys... i was wondering how it works, coz i don't even spend 10 hours at home each day... hard to monitor if it works... ha ha.. appreciate all you help... cheers,
  17. Hi Guys, Can i check with you... to set the night mode for the Vortech pump, we need to press the black and grey button together. the led will blink red, white and blue. press black and grey button again, the light goes into a white breathing light. can i check do we have to do this every night? or can it be automatic? i read the manual, but am still confused... pweesng...
  18. not sure if i am in time to help... instead of using an adaptor, i use the power cable from my PC. It fits in the power pack perfectly.
  19. damn.. i also have this white things crawling on my glass... they are especially obvious when you turn off the pump and the water is still... WHAT ARE THEY????
  20. i do not have a refugium... would putting them in the return portion of the sump tank works? what do these pods eat anyway?
  21. thanks Jacky, unfortunately i do not have a refugium. But i intend to get a large betta box and put it at the back of the tank with some chaetos. Maybe i pour inside there. hopefully on their own, can are able to escape in small quantity... sounds like a good idea? hahahha
  22. I only got time to feed once a day... 7 am in the morning... those bottled pods... like Tigger Pods etc etc... if i pour the whole bottle in at one go, do they just die off after a while? or they will survive until they are being eaten... i kinda like the idea of "continuous" feeding as well
