  1. Check for pest. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  2. I do not keep sps only softies and lps. I use API test kits and find that it is good enough. Have been using them for the past 2 years. I only test for KH weekly. Calcium and Mg monthly. My parameterrs are stable once the correct dosing is established and I dose manually. Semi retired thus can spare the time to do daily dosing at the fixed time early in the morning.
  3. It's your call. If you feel it is not worth it just don't buy from them. The fact remains that prices of corals have gone up and it will keep going up as long as there is demand and the supply is limited because of tighter control on the collection of them from the wild.
  4. Looking for chaeto. Preferable in the West. Txt me 91817Otwo8
  5. I have 5 tanks. two of them on chiller. The 28 - 29 degree LPS tank do not have chiller. The one with chiller just started not long ago. Currently cycling will post some updates soon.
  6. I use PAR20 daylight LED from the lighting shop. $12 each. You will need a lampholder with a clamp.
  7. There are times I get an LPS from a fresh shipment that looks fine. But after a day in the tank it starts to die. When I cut it up it is already rotting from within. So I suspsect it is already stressed and dying when it arrived from overseas.
  8. btw back to your question why the torch coral is doing badly. There may be other factors other than temperature. I find that if the LPS is from a fresh shipment it may not do well if we buy it immediately on the day of arrival. It is already stressed from the journey. So if it did not rest enough and we subject it to another trip to our home it may stress them further. So did you get yours from the lfs or from another reefer?
  9. Personal experience. It may be better to use an external probe to monitor and control the tempeature. As the probe will be monitoring the tank/sump tempetature this will give a more accurate feedback to the chiller to respond to the cooling requirement. I use a HS 28a for my 200+ litre system. Set the cut in at 26 and cut out at 25. Chiller will normally take about 1 hour to bring the temp down and cut out for about 2 hour before cutting in again. I use external temp probe.
  10. Did you measure the flow rate or are you assuming that you 600 lph pump is givin you that. All the hose and fittings and height difference from intake to discharge will add resistance to the flow and will lower the flow.
  11. Well I have been running my tank at around 28 - 29 degrees and my LPS is all doing fine.
  12. What is you temperature setting and flow rate through the chiller?
  13. Not clear, looks like some kind of tube worm?
  14. You are welcome ronnie. Feel free to ask if in doubt. We want everyone who go into this hobby to succeed.
  15. Yeah common mistake made by most people who start a reef tank. So tempting, all the nice fishes in the store you just want to have them all. Too many too soon. So do read up and be patient otherwise you will conclude that reefkeeping is difficult and give up. That will be a waste of time and money. You also mentioned about going overseas? Not advisable to start a tank and then go away so soon. First few weeks of a new tank is critical. Have to monitor it closely to make sure all is going well. Well hope you will learn to enjoy the hobby and all the best.
  16. Hi would like to get some of your pulsing xenia. WA me 91817028

  17. Just curious pardon my ignorance, if they are in the UV spectrum why are they called red tanning lights? Is it because it brings out the red in the fish but the light is actually blue?
  18. Hi, I sent you an sms on 15 April regarding a Maxpect gyre 150. Contact me if you are keen.
  19. From personal experience when bottom is black there will be more coralline algae.
  20. Very neat. Good reason for not concealing the filtration system in a cabinet.
  21. From the dimensions I estimate that the fully stocked tank should be in the region of 400+ kg. I assure you that it will not be fun moving that around even if it is on wheels.
  22. Hi, I am not sure why you experience drop in water level in DT when there is evaporation. Scientifically this should not happen the drop should be in the return pump compartment. as mentioned earlier by others and of course if the evaporation is too much and water level in the pump compartment is near the pump intake then vortex will form and air will then be sucked in and returned to the DT.
  23. Ya looks OK. Did you measure the magnesium of you fresh sw? Some reef salt have low magnesium. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
