  1. may i add this white sand to my existing deep sand bed, to increase the level
  2. Hi Bro, I do agree about the process and troublesome and stress to the fish. How I did was (1) go to the Aquarium shop, bought the fish (2) straight to hotel, put the bag of live fish in luggage to be check-in (3) and immediate to airport ( at Jakarta ). Then it is a challenge, depending on the custom officer ~ if he/she want to let you pass ( so I will buy not more than 2 live fish, as I travel regularly to Indonesia ). Flight is 1.5 hour. I still have the spotfin lionfish and majestic that I brought in from Jakarta. As for HK, I had brought in live fish only once ( many years ago )and that was before the 100ml liquid in airline was imposed. Cos I wanted to spent my remaining HK$ instead of bringing back the small amount HK$ and the fish is not so expensive. At that time time, I hand-carry the bag of live fish. Just to share some experience, the thrill of bringing live fish from abroad.
  3. I am very curious as here we are talking about bringing live fish from abroad. It would be good if we share our adventure. As I had a bitter experience where the custom officer saw the live fish and demanded a high fee such that I got no choice but to give him the live fish.
  4. the shop put the spotfin lionfish in a double-layered plastic bag, and i further place this double-layered plastic bag inside another plastic bag. The lionfish was only 3" then. Now it has grown to 4". Somehow bringing the live fish back home from abroad is a challenge. I also brought back a majestic. Iskay, may I ask what fish you have brought back home ( i am curious )
  5. mopiko, please share your adventure ( on your future success of bringing in live fish via Changi Airport ) and also to Bro out there who have ever tried to share your adventure.
  6. hi, usually the plastic bag is 2-layered and to play it safe place this 2-layered plastic bag in another plastic bag and tied it ( same as the 2-layered plastic bag, tied properly ). it would be better if you have space in check-in luggage for a styro-foam box and sealed with tape ( 100%no leak). then this styro-foam box to be in check-in luggage as per AVA. Entry into Changi Airport is no problem BUT have to see the Airport ( of Country ) where you intend to check-in the live fish inside your baggage. i managed to bring in Majestic and Spotfin lionfish ( on one of the attempt ). My last attempt to bring in Blue Ring and Regal failed ( these fish was so nice, the custom officer wanted the fish ) and demanded so much, that i have no choice BUT to give the fish to them ( one fish each ).
  7. Bro, I have a advice to all who intend carry live fish ( in styro foam or air-filled plastic bag ) ~ they are to be in checked-luggage ONLY. However, please be informed that AVA and Changi Airport is fine ( meaning OK ) with Rules and Regulation ie.less than 30 fish ( but need to check the water quantity restriction ). Please also need to check with the Airport ( of country ) where you intend to bring in these live fish. It also very much depend on the custom officer who is "inspecting" your live fish. Sometime, depending on the custom officer, he / she may allow the live fish inside your check-in luggage BUT there are custom officer who will want you to "pay" to bring the live fish inside your check-in luggage. I experienced both occasion(s). The fish I managed to bring in still swimming in my tank at home. The fish I did not manage to bring in ~ i gave it to the custom officer.
  8. i have a longnose yellow butterflyfish which is now 2.5 months in the tank. i feed once in morning frozen brine shrimp and again in evening. only on weekend i feed live brine shrimp. it does eat a little bit of shrimp flakes. but i guess it won't last in my tank (probably poor quality water, as have not replenish with new water quite some time). any one out there keeping this same fish, need your advice.
  9. probably sand bed helps improve water quality, which please comment
  10. i have a 3' tank with 3" depth sand, almost 4 year old - i have a 2" fire clown and 1.5" dwarf angel. recently a marine hobbyist bought a longnose yellow butterflyfish, which refused to eat for a week. On 22 May 2010, he then pass the longnose yellow butterflyfish to me and it is almost 2 months and it is still surviving in my 3' tank. Recently the same marine hobbyist found that his 6" blueface angelfish is bullying his newly bought angelfish. On 4 July 2010, he then pass the 6" blueface angelfish to me and it is now 1 week and it is still surviving in my 3' tank. Surprisingly the 6" blueface angelfish does not bully the 1.5" dwarf angelfish in my 3' tank. Most surprising finding was that while feeding flakes to the 6" blueface angelfish, the longnose yellow butterflyfish also eat the flakes.
