  1. Hi Guys The hall is air-conditioned so will a Hailea 1/2 HP be enough or should I go for a 1 HP? On the lights yes will have to go for the newer model max. Skimmer im looking at the Skimz SK 252. Yup looking at a "coast to coast" overflow box - looks nice.
  2. Final Final Specs:- Tank 6 x 2.5 x 2.5 feet Sump 5 feet x 2 feet x 16 inches Pump 1 : Abyzz 200 Pump 2: Eheim 1264 Chiller: Artica 1/3 hp Skimmer: Deltec SC 2560 Internal Lights Maxspect G2 170w x 2 panels 900mm LED Whaddaya guys reckon?
  3. Did you have a chiller installed during the cycling process? IMO if you have it then the good hitchhikers on your Live Rock will thrive otherwise most of them might not make it....
  4. IMO they say its filtered etc but I don't buy that. I dont think it is. All the experts recommend using Salt Mix. You get PURE Salt Water if you use a DI/RO unit. Mixing is a breeze with a power head and its only a hassle the first time but its fun. 10% water changes are a breeze. Just drain the sump and refill.
  5. hi, Im using a Hailea HS-100A for my two footer which is 63 litres. Mine doesnt have a sump. You will probably need the model which is 1 notch more powerful then this.Thats the Hailea HC-130A which is 1/15 HP. It should not cost you more then 350 bucks. I bought mine from Ah beng at Pasir Ris Farmway 2. What pump are you going to use for the chiller?
  6. LOL....hi Desideria Does your tank have it's overflow box mounted on the side or it is a full length box? Im thinking of doing it all alone the side so it looks neater. What do you reckon?
  7. Fabulous.....4 footer? Walau Eh....tank doomed from the start- "4"!!!
  8. Hi Ah Siang Yes you are right. Got another quote today - all in around 20k. LED Pendents total 4k. Maybe i should just use the 20k for a BMW downpayment instead!!!
  9. http://www.aquacave.com/turboflotor-blue-3000-brprotein-skimmer-by-aquamedic-1565.html this is it....
  10. Hi Bro The agent for this brand is in Joo Chiat, aquamart. I saw it in action in their sump. Couldn't really tell how good it was. Its called the Aqua medic Blue 3000. This is a write up on it by someone who owned it. http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-193892.html doesn't seem so great after all!! What would you recommend for my 827 litre tank with 300+ litre sump?
  11. Hi Guys Oprime to Yellow Tang: Good one! Wouldn't it be amazing if we could shrink ourselves, don some mini gear and go diving in the comfort of our own home instead of burning 5k to go to Lombok or Menado eta. Ermm yeah i've definitely lost it boy!! Ha ha...this forum has helped a heck of a lot. Meeting friends here gives you lots of ideas. Thank you all!! to Wilsotantw: Hi Wilson. i guess it seems like a good choice as its german as well and its cheaper then the others. Something like 700 bucks a unit. What do you reckon? to Harle: Hi Harle. Primarily i chose to go with the 1264s cos of the price. A friend actually asked me to go for 2 x 10,000 litres per hour pumps. 2 Red dragons i guess but thats EX boy. OR8500 sounds good. Your suggestion is spot on. Will browse online later to see how much these cost. Perhaps I should just go for dosing. Save some moolah!! I hope i can post pics soon. Still have not decided who to commission on the build. I reckon its going to take at least 4 to 6 weeks before "Atlantis" comes Have a wonderful weekend guys. Regds G
  12. Hi, For all those of you who are crazy enough to follow this thread!!, the situation is now like this:- IF i actually get this done (its 50/50 and the reason being its insanely expensive & daunting) it will have to be 6 x 2.5 x 2 for 2 reasons:- a. Anything bigger and my costs will almost double. With this size, glass thickness can stay at 12mm. b. I dont have to have stretchable rubber arms to get to most places! Its now down to 224 US Gallons or 850 litres with a 376 litre Sump (5x2x1.33) - still a heck of a lot of salt water! 1226 litres (surely about two tons after adding sand live rock and factoring in the weight of the tank) The equipment i'm thinking about is as follows:- Skimmer: Aquamedic Blue 3000 Chilling: 1 HP or 1/2 Drop in Coil Chilling system with external compressor (Would be great if you guys could recommend someone to me for this) OR installing a Central AC in my hall which will blow 24/7 Return Pumps: 2 x Eheim 1264 (4500 litres per hour x 2) Calcium Reactor (any recommendations) Lights: Anything below a grand (going for 6500 / 6000 ks) Wavebox: Anything good Thats about it i guess - SO SIMPLE (Like hell it is!!!) P.S. A friend of mine advised me not to have three holes cut into the base panel of the tank but just to have one. The 2 return flow pipes to be run from the side (concealed) into the top of the tank. ANY VIEWS on this?
  13. Hi Guys Came across this wonderful article. Useful for all of us. http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77883
  14. Lol....you guys are funny!! Yeah I guess it's best to not try with a Mandarin. They seem to be really tough to keep alive. This is one beautiful fish along with the Sohal Tang but i guess i have to resist getting both. Seems that the Sohal is once whacky aggressive bugger.....
  15. Guys, Would like to hear your stories on Mandarins that you have kept successfully in your tanks. Regds G
  16. Hi Wilson You have a point. What if i go for a 1 HP chiller? Will that suffice for a 1200 litre tank?
  17. For sure! My only concern is what do i do when i need to move, IF i need to....i think im going to HECK it and just go for it lah! What the HECK....we have to go for what we want....
  18. Hi Guys What are your views on doing away with a chiller completely? I've been advised that the benefits are as follows if we use airconditioning which is left on 24 hours:- 1. We dont get condensation on the tank 2. Electricity consumption is lower 3. The whole family benefits from the cool air besides our beloved fishy wishies and coral. 4. No noise and heat emissions from the chiller Looking forward to receiving your views!! G
  19. Hi Bro Personally i prefer a fine white sand bed cos it looks nice. But to have it entirely of fine white sand has its disadvantages. I guess its best to have it topped off with crushed coral bits. You can google it and check out the different views.
  20. No La. Im staying in an apartment buts its a ground floor corner unit and we haven't really cluttered the place up so i guess this will be a good divider between the TV area and the dining area.....small place lah.
  21. Try Sandra at 428 Upper Serangoon Rd. Good Tank makers
  22. Hi Bro, Your tank volume is around 910 litres. All you really have to do is change 10% monthly. Thats 91 litres. Alternatively you could split this into 4 partial water changes every week so its easy to do. There are different schools of thought and i guess each has their own advantages. I guess its all a matter of what your tank prefers and over time we ought to be able to sense this. I suppose with large tanks there really isn't a short cut. Its best to use a syphon to fill out 1.5 of your barrels from your sump and then add in the pre-mixed water if your doing it monthly. I guess you would need another two barrels or perhaps its better just to get 2 more bigger ones. Its good if you have a trolley cart to move the ones filled with water. Should make life that much easier. Hope it helps. Have a great Weekend G
  23. Hi Guys Changes have been made again! Now its 7 x 2.5 x 2.5 feet. 15mm Crystal Glass. OMG I know. Not looking forward to the 120 litre monthly water changes!!! I wont be using a chiller and will instead be going for an air-conditioning unit in the hall. Total cost for tank + skimmer + lights etc :- $7,000.00 estimated (excluding sand, live rock etc) Will be naming it Atlantis! Once she's up, will be posting pics. Have a great weekend G
