  1. You try.. it will be a never ending battle.. hehe. I had infestation once by some large (size of frozen mysis) shrimp like pods.. can't remember the name. Brownish and comes out at night.. Its kinda impossible to clear them with water change because they burrow in rocks.. worst is fishes do not eat them.. I was lucky they are not harmful to LSs... just disgusting to see when lights go off.. anyway nature took its course and population shrunk alot for some reason.. But in this case, I got a feeling some fishes might eat them coz they are small. Mandarins maybe?
  2. Well people get new fish, people shoot and post.. if something cannot be proven illegal, its just like any other reefer who have a new addition and posting it online.. If they are afraid that illegal poachers might try their luck, then officials should step up security.. They have been very successful in doing that, don't they? They probably can do even better.
  3. For one, I know you will not be able to get rid of them with UV nor any ich treatments.. BTW they should be a kind of pods.. You probably need a LS intervention.. however I do not know what fish can help..
  4. Is it exactly illegal? Dun think anyone can prove anything.. can still say that its a stray..
  5. I'm no expert in piping and waterflow but it looks like you are drawing water from main tank and output back to your sump? How are you gonna control your water flow back? Wouldn't you get a flood in your sump? Even if you get an equalibrum in both pump flows, if your return pump were to fail, you'll be finding your fishes flipping in the main tank..
  6. Finally.. I can offer $50 bo? hehe So when you starting on a bigger tank..
  7. yeah... thats what mine does.. eat and sleep.. and hide flat in some crevice which people can still see it.. duh!..
  8. Draw water from main tank? You do not have a sump? Actually you can use the Rio 32HF externally. I have personally done it before.. and also for use on a beckett..
  9. Try not to put the Achilles in first. They are considered fierce.. If do, get a bigger or similar sized blue later.. BTW blue tangs are pretty docile.. in fact, if you get the one like mine, its "ball-less".. So introducing in first before other Tangs is ok
  10. So still wanna try? hehe.. I doubt anyone dare gamble even if its a 90% ok..
  11. Metal alone is something everyone here will want to avoid.. if someone says its 'probably' not harmful, you wanna try? Its kinda their word against your future tank condition.. I'd say just leave it and move one. Its better to prevent then find a cure later..
  12. As long as its dry paint and only for a brief moment.. If its left there permanently I bet something will get leeched out.. besides, metal will rust.. rust is not good in a tank. Maybe unrelated but there are also finding of aluminum kitchen appliances causing health issue to humans. Due to some toxin release. Not sure if this will affect LS in the long run also.
  13. Its normal for Australian Black Ocellaris to have orange faces when in Juvenile stage.. I had my true mated pair with orange faces too.. they both evolved to fully black really quick in my tank.. I don't know about the tank breed ones.. they may have evolved during the multiple breeding processes.. sorta like the shirtless clowns or Picassos..
  14. Definitely not directly into your main tank for a start.. skimmerless tank? Nano? so I guess you also do not have a sump then?
  15. Most probably yes.. most fishes that can fit into their mouths will be fish food.. slimline fishes which you think are too long for them will still be fish food (eg medium to large firegobies). However, small fishes that lions will leave alone are Mandarins and surprising Scooter Blennies.
  16. The uncle at Reborn used his hands to scoop up a medium sized Volitan lion into a bag.. talk about brave.
  17. Thats why I don't recommend filters.. just have big sized medias in there so any reasonably size dirt/detritus/food will flow through and not stay in the canister.. this way you got a chance of all those stuff being skimmed out by the skimmer. The purpose here is not get anything stuck or filtered and therefore left there for days to breakdown.
  18. Well I've personally seen SGBro in action.. once for my new tank and once for a friend's.. they are pretty quick and knows what they are doing.. before you know it, they are already done with their job..
  19. Only if you clear it every few days.. else it will still break down in a few days to a week on whatever filter you place.. then it would be too much work.. I would suggest just let detritus flow through the canister into the skimmer..
  20. if you put it for that use, then do away with the filter wool.. its not necessary... seriously.. the skimmer does that job already..
  21. If possible in the future, get a better skimmer and do away with the canister..
  22. +1 to that. Look for models and brands that have been proven. And cheaper alternative is good.. initially.. until it starts creating issues later..
  23. Oxygen nano bubbles? Anyway I don't know about hyper-salinity on freshwater fish.. esp on goldfishes.. .. I know mollies can be done because I've kept 1 for more than a yr in a marine tank. But goldfish? They are pretty sensitive and requires heavy air bubbling.. bubbling in a marine tank is kinda stupid looking.. Maybe I'm just not a freshwater fish person.. I've never successfully kept any freshwater fishes.. hehe.. yeah, not even supposedly easy neon tetras and guppies.. .. they die off usually in a week or 2..
  24. Ok.. I've been out of the seen for way too long.. I stumbled across pics and vids on the GeX brand product which actually made saltwater and freshwater fishes live together.. apparently it was in Aquarama 2009 too.. cruel or not I don't know. Anyone knows how they did it? Wouldn't the half past 6 water salinity kill of either species or even all species?
  25. Get enough rocks and you should be able to do away with biohome or any bacteria housing media.. In fact, if you can or need, replace the biohome stuff with rocks.. Its way more manageable this way. Problem with most of these medias is usually they trap detritus which then becomes a 'nitrate factory'..
