  1. Hi guys, just got new zoas on my 10g nanos. these are my first corals so...I'm feeding them with Kent microvert food,( yellow liquid comes in a bottle) the instructions says: one drop per gallon. Meaning I just drop in the substance and that's how they get their food? I'm still a noob when it comes to corals.
  2. And plus, I don't have a wave maker because the tank is rather small and I don't want it to take up more space... Do I need a wave maker? Thx:)
  3. Ok 3) was a really dumb question. sorry about that mate.
  4. So I have a 10g nano aquarium using an overflow sump( sump is rather small but I believe it's sufficient; ceramic and glass rings, and wool). Today just got some zoas couldn't resist, the coral farm at pasir rid farmway 2 told me they're the simplest to keep. I'm not using a skinmer at the moment but might using the dymax IQ slimmer soon. my questions are 1)Can I keep these zoas without a skimmer? 2) I'm not sure what led lifting on using as this is a all on one china tank but seems very bright.. Is it sufficient? How long must I switch it on per day? Using the blue or white lights? 3) I switch on my aircon every night but not during the day, I have no chiller. But got a Dymax W8 vortex cooling fan.. How? Because it seems to be causing a high evaporation rate and I have to top up more freshwater daily which will in turn lead to a decrease in salinity which is bad my my zoas.. 4) I feed it with ken marine microvert. I'm also concern about the ammonia produced from its food. Will the bioload from its food and the zoas itself be a problem? 5)is it a danger to other fishes? I have one damsel and planning to keep a clownfish soon. Cheers:)
  5. Bro, this is my second attempt at keeping a marine nano tank, and all have been well so far simply cos Im making sure I didn't make the same mistakes the last time. So the answer to your questions... 1)I believe you place the IQ 5 skimmer at the back of your IQ5 tank. There's a compartment on the extreme left. place the skimmer in the water with the cup above water level. then observe. If the foam is forming fast and water is spilling into your cup, adjust the skimmer higher, vice versa, lower, or adjust your air pump power. Should be yellow skimmate. Also needs time for the skimmer to break in and produce results. Change the standard wooden block to a sanders 2 one, I heared it's better. 2) since you're not keeping corals, I would worry so much about the lighting and the temperature. Just make sure the temperature don't get too warm. Should focus more on the cycling of the tank. Your equipment seems fine for the basic set-up 3) I use an external hydrometer purchased from LFS, china made one cheap. I measure my salt content every two dys and make necessary changes to it. Top up daily evaporated water loss 4) The nearest LFS dealing with marine fish for me is aquastar and they suck at giving advise. They always appear busy and unwilling to talk to you. I think this forum gives the best advise about how to successfully keep a nano tank. 5) I like how the IQ5 has different compartments for you to make easily make changes to your tank.( although im not using one) or me, I use a sponge or wool for the mechanical filtration, glass rings and bio ceramic rings for bio filtration. I don't use carbon for chemical filtration as I do 10% water changes per week. Good luck, and remember, patience is the key. Add your LS slowly and not all at once. This gives time for the tank and beneficial bacteria to adjust to the changes in the bio load. As your tank matures, you can do less frequent water changes and less Maintanance. Peace.
  6. hey guys, I've got a 10 g nano with one damsel and live rock, and have been cycling it for two weeks with water that i purchased from LFS and frequent water changes and have been adding bottled bacteria from LFS. all look happy and active. so today at the pet store, I got a slug( couldn't resist it looked damn nice) My questions would be... 1) I'm concerned about the bioload produced by the slug. Will it be too much for a tank my size? Im not using a skimmer yet. 2) I don't have any corals, but if I start to keep some, will I have to get ride of the slug? 3) Im planning to add a clownfish and a doctor shrimp in due time after my tank has matured...can they be compatible.?? I'm sorry I can't seem to upload the picture of the slug.. I'm using an iPhone to view this forum, but it's blue and orange and got like orange tentacles on its head. dunno what slug issit.
  7. I agree with the quote above.. Your fish keep dying cos the water quality is bad. Patience is the key. So the best you can do is follow these steps. 1) Stop adding fish! 2) make sure you cycle the tank properly, since you have bad water quality, do a 60% water change USING SALTWATER FROM THE LFS AND NOT YOUR OWN SALT MIX ( assuming that you have no fish in the tank) Then test the salt level after 10 hours. 3) add beneficial bacteria/ agents to help cycle your tank from LFS( usually comes in a bottle) and few drops of PH stabiliser 8.2 from the LFS 4)WAIT FOR 4-6 weeks. Do not add any livestock. Adding livestock will be adding more ammonia to your tank which I believe is killing your fIsh. However, you can add ONE(1) small damsel in your tank to help with the cycle 5) Use a marker to mark you water level. then at the end of the each day, top up the evaporated water loss( should be about 70-100l for you tank size 6) Every week, change 10% of your water, using saltwater from the LFS, keep monitoring your salt levels. 7) after 4-6 weeks, if your damsel is active and healthy. you can add ONE clown( tank raised) and that's all.
  8. thanks guys will check it out at Clementi soon:)
  9. Guys, know where I can get a sander two woodblock? I'm getting the dymax iq5 skimmer next week for my nano... f Thx:)
  10. Thanks for the advise:) .. Just wondering how often do I need the 10% wc? Secondly, the filter media I use is wool, I bag of glass rings and another bag of ceramic rings for bacteria/bio filtration. Do I need to change these media, if so, how often? Cuz I already have stacked live rock and live sand purchased from qian hu fish farm... :/
  11. Hi guys, I have a 10g nano, recently just added a Dymax IQ5 skimmer( which fits my tank perfect).. But it's not producIng foam! It produces large bubbles that pop before reaching the cup and after a few hours, I don't see any skimmate, just clear water. How can I solve this problem? I plan to keep two damsels. One clown and maybe a shrimp. The skimmer will really lessen the load on the filter and reduce the frequency of water changes. thanks:)
  12. Hi guys! This is my first post and second attempt at a saltwater tank. In need of help:D Basically I just got a 10g nano tank (some china brand RM-031). Its got a filter attached to the back similar to the nano space and dymax iq series, filled with glass rings and porcelain rings for bio filtration. Also it's LED lighting is much brighter than the Dymax IQ5. I plan to keep some corals soon.. For now only have one damsel. Planning to get a clownfish. My damsel seems to be doing fine, I get my saltwater from a lfs and cycled my tank for about one week with love rock. Please kind souls, help me answer these questions.. 1) do I need a skimmer?(due to the size of the tank, I think the dymax IQ slimmer would do fine..BUT I CABT FIND IT AT ANY LFS ALL OUT OF STOCK:( 2) what kind of corals can I keep( easiest to care for using only LED)? 3) must my LED lights be on 24/7 to keep corals? Thanks
