  1. i say candy cane... its easy and cheap.
  2. Ohh overflow.. I not sure as did not specify.. about 40 mm I think.
  3. pipe dia 13mm, sump 60x30x24 some updates... all i want for xmaz are some beautiful zoas. added more live rocks mangrove can survive singapore's famous polluted water but looks like gonna die in my tank... know where to buy red mangroves? saw many at irwana but the handsome indian helper say not for sale..
  4. Lol.. the live rock from ah beng pretty raw.. already caught a huge teddy bear crab and 2 smaller crabs..
  5. Can help me id this hitchhiker? Comes from a hole and on movement, quickly withdraws back...
  6. I quite like the idea of bio pellets but can i output the flow into the main tank? the advertising claims that filter feeders will fest on these bacteria....
  7. been doing some reading.. as the outflow of the reactor goes directly into the main tank, bio pellets are not recommanded eh. I dont see the need to tumble activated carbon or PO4 remover so might not be installing a reactor afterall. I dunno, what do the expets think?
  8. Eh can leh! Great suggestion! Thanks, dunno why I never thought of it.. haha
  9. hehe, talking about fishes.. this is my stocking plan 1) goby and shrimp pair 2) mandarin fish pair(must have, they are reason why i got a bigger tank but ofcoz they must be pallet or frozen food trained) 3) 1 regal angle or majestic angle or purple tang or powder blue tang or pacific blue tang (1 focal point, a king of the tank) not running any reactor to add heat, as i dont plan to have a chiller. Hopefully the volume to surface area ration enables enough evaporation to cope. With the return pump as my main heat source, current temp is about 27-28C. I believe this will go down by another 2C when i put a fan in sump area. No fans in main display tank as i dont want surface agitation to disrup top viewing. However i did plan enough cabinet space for a chiller as last resort.
  10. Ok thanks.. makes sense. So I guess the next thing will be my lighting.. will be exploring the fish carnival at imm for options. So prolly no more updates till then..
  11. thanks for the kind words... think i will cut out two pieces of wood to force fit into the cabinet to act as pillars. Officially started the cycling already.Threw in a cube of mysis and scatter pieces of prawn. Bio media is a combination of red biohome and seachem matrix. the blue strip you see is an acrylic pasted on to increase water level of skimmer compartment. At the back there, you can see that i rest my electrical extension on an empty box, haha. the water turned yellowish on adding the live rock. Should i run activated carbon and phosphate absorber during cycling?
  12. i putting filter wool, lucky i have skinny hands.
  13. Thanks for the tip bro.. so have to find my own private contractor eh... Sand finally settled overnight,I have rinsed the sand at least 10 times before daring to put it into the tank. . Ignore the filter wool, its temporary to trap sand particles. Gonna get live rock now.. does the new ML have? if not have to travel down to cf.
  14. Trying to achieve an all "transparent" look so will be squeezing everything into the Sump.Thousand and one ideas running through my mind now... see how things go lor. Things got messy and wet as i was fiddling with the return pump and laying the Sand bed...In my mind i was also questioning the integrity of the cabinet over time. I guess when messing around with stuff, have to be more careful and ''dry"...
  15. Xmaz came early.. pose with my foot the inside... nearer after adding oolite sand, its overnight operation desert storm.. how things clear up in the morning...
  16. i oso newbie. Try keeping some corals, thay are as much fun as fish. If you are confident, just skip the soft corals and go direct to LPS. Its fasinating to watch LPS like candy cane feed! From the pic, you running skimmer?
  17. I using ibox20 right now... i dont like it as it scratches too easily, the high price for it is not justified. If i can turn back time, i would get the ocean free nano 34L instead.
  18. ok bro thanks.. by the time cycling and everything all done already.. hope sg has it. or else have to settle for 9002.
  19. OK... sorta found what i want but this model doesnt seem to be for sale anywhere in sg? TUNZE DOC Skimmer 9004
  20. Yup, 25cm abit shallow, i increased to 30cm already. Originally, my plan was to visit both N30 and CRA for quotations on tank, cabinet and sump. CRA being my 1st stop, i ended up discussing about tank stuff for an hour with the boss. In the end, too excited as well as too lazy to travel elsewhere, so i commisoned CRA to build my tank. However, i still have some problems, my sump design/dimensions cannot be finalized yet as it seems that cannot find any good protein skimmers that is 35cm or below in height. (cabinet is 40 cm high). As we cannot find anything suitable browsing Bubble Magus and SKIMZ catalog online so the boss ask me to finalize my choce of skimmer and return pump 1st before discussing about sump again. Bros, any recommendations for a good skimmer below 35cm in height? and maybe a small return pump about 1500L/h?
  21. Any recommendations for tank makers for this kinda braceless all glass tank? Want a all "glass" all "transparent" look but not acrylic, very scared of scratches now.
  22. Currently I am learning the basics by running a 20L nano Cube. I am totally fascinated by this hobby and am already planning a 2nd tank. Inspired by some of the rimless braceless open top concepts seen, I am going for this minimalistic look too. This tank will be placed on a 40cm high cabinet with sump so to view it, people will have to sit cross legged on the floor . What do you guys think of the below tank dimensions?
  23. yeah.. been doing reseach from library as well as internet... its death's cause by temperature issues. This species of white urchins are common in school science labs in US but not so common in sg. It's optimal temperature is around 22C but my fan cooled tank temp is between 25C to 28C. It must have been dying a slow death for 1 week since i bought it. Lesson learnt, stick to the more common species of LS found in sg or do more reseach on less commonly seen species before buyng....
