mayb u shld changing to hanging MH or t5 like e ones GO have to match e living room environment..
i tink its quite glaring in the living room with 3 mh shining in one corner..
also better tidy up e sump area..
e granite flooring can only take a certain limit of water seeping thru b4 lines form..
expecially sea water....
its best to consider when setting up e tank to go bare bottom or sand bed...
else kinda of heavy load of sand bags for ur calibre of tank size..
I chose the lights initially because of the odd length of the tank which meant a commercially avail unit will be too long or short. These lamps are really poorly manufactured anyway and i dont reccomend anyone to buy them. Blew 2 ballasts and 4 bulbs in 3 years. the hinge also broke on one. now left with one working lamp. Will go for T5s next.
Cabinet in the backroom had been torn down to make way for a dedicated circuit board and more space for maintenance.
Yup u are right about the granite issue, have to ensure minimal splashes. Best Flooring to hold a marine tank will be bare compacted concrete plus industrial epoxy coating. Bright Blue flooring anyone?

Wow its been 4 years since you last updated. Glad to see you back!
Yup everything was going on smoothly until the tank burst a seam and started leaking. Have to start all over now.

really envy u. got gf with rich dad makes life easier staying in sillypore. 10k budget? dats like me 7 mths of hard sweaty work bro. 10k for her dad is peanuts. lol. btw, nice setup and looks like u know equipments well. will follow up on ur thread. good luck.
Hi, i think a $10k budget is already on the low side for a tank this size. almost 30% of the budget went into the tank , sump and plumbing. The rest of the equipment are low-mid end. I choose the equipments base on effieciency:cost ratio. I dont buy equipments for brand or how they look. It must be functional and reasonably priced. I try to support local companies for their competitive pricing and quality product+local support and warranty.
$10k is around the price of a Mid end sound system + TV. I think a good reef tank provides just as or even more entertainment.
Happy reefing!

very very very nice....i like your creative way of using 3 clip on MH for yr tank. Which means you have the option of switching off one or 2 of them during evening time.
one last thing, can you change yr avatar, i think its kinda turn off with that zombie lady there.
Sadly, the MH will come off to minimise the clutter. New setup will utillise T5s instead, they run cooler, are easier to hide and cut the chiller some slack.
As for the avatar....HAHA been with me for 6 years already. Crazy ###### zombie Bi**ch.

kept a Slow Lorris for several years once many years ago adopted from a friend of mine who cant stand his strong odour.he was awake only when feeding and defeacating, asleep the rest of the time. Nocturnal and very tame, will cling to your body like a baby(or a tree).Favourite food Banana+apples+carrots+1 raw egg+strips of boiled chicken breast AKA Lorris Salad. Indo maid set it free into the forest behind my home, told us i was cruel to keep a slow lorris(native indonesian primate i think). Probably died in the wild, too slow to outrun dogs and cats.
A lorris or any other primate is NOT an ideal pet. They should and must remain in the wild. they are never fully domesticated and will easily chew off your fingers without second thought, and slow lorris are one of the few primates that are toxic! even mine which was kept as a pet since its infancy stages will bite strangers who get too close to his mango tree.
Kept a juvenile python once too during NS days, caught in tekong and kept in in my bunk for several months before it grew too big and had to go. Fed it frogs from freshwater LFS twice per week. cant find mice and chicks(from a chicken) are too big for it to swallow.
We played alot of fun games to keep morale up during long field camps one of them was trading stuff caught in the forest. you'll be suprise how exotic and diversified the catches were! 6inch black centipede anyone?

witnessed this a 2 weeks ago, all 9 turban snails were have a massive party.
Pardon the poor pic, no time to set up tripod, shooting from the hit.
saw hundreds of tiny spiral like crustecean looking stuff all over the tank and in the sump today.Could they be baby snails? will try to get a good enough macro up asap. Anyone successfully raised turban snails into adulthood?

Tank Criteria
The main and only criteria for the tank is it needs to be whisper silent as it is beside my bed. The whole setup is geared in this direction in the planning and implementation stages. I tested alot of equipment(mainly pumps) before deciding on the above list, any equipment that is remotely capable of creating more noise that it should is replaced. Without the chiller kicking in, I believe the tank is running at >50dB. For comparison, my room aircon(marketed as one of the most silent in the market) runs at >45dB. Normal conversations should rate in at about 70dB. Everything right down to the plumbing parts in contact with the cabinet were clamped down and wrapped in sound absorbing materials. Special Thanks to the Aquamarin team for their help in planning and materialising my dream tank.

Latest update!
The tank split at the seams. Seems like even a 15mm thick bottomed braced Long+Tall tank is a lurking danger. Better to go for 20mm or all round euro bracing. Anyway, tank maker has decided to replace the tank without charge.
Should heed the warning when i saw air bubbles in the silicon seams.
There's nothing like a whole day of mopping up 1,200litres of salt water for a wake up call. HAHA
Stay tuned for new tank pics, Should be coming up shortly.
new tank will be same dimensions but 20mm with all round euro bracing.

Suppose to be green colour. Its left over shipment from GO in June. It's growing as i can see various pertrusions coming out, but reviving the colour quite difficult.
Think under MH will have better chance.
Hey u should be able to get it to colour up. mine turned purple with green polyps, 1 month under 10X39W t5s. what T5s are u using?

Try the Aquarium Munster aquarium silicon. Can be applied and cured in the aquarium without draining. Last i saw they are available in Aquamarin. Dont risk it, my 6X2X3 emptied itself within 30mins in the middle of the night.Imagine 1 ton of salt water on the floor...
