High flow rate or too many times turn over doesn't mean good... Too fast flow rate your sump water flow too fast, the bb cannot fully settle down and grow, sane as in your main tank.

What type of overflow are you using now? A single standpipe or durso design/ DIY siphon type with PVC pipes?

I don't think that having a bit of sodium is much of an issue. I'm assuming that the anion is not anything harmful though. 3ppm isn't the best but is still okay in my opinion.

If you're adventurous, copperband butterfly fish will get rid of them. They are hard to keep though.

Try to isolate the mandarin first and try feeding it with a mixture of live food, frozen food and pellets. In my experience, not every fish is as receptive to pellets and its actually a hit and miss

I used to get that algae with pl lights but I've gotten long stringy green algae after switching to 660nm LEDs. I used a par38 plant growlight. At first the algae was slimy but after the first clean up, the stringy type of algae took over instead

There have been many reefers overseas who have tried dosing vitamin c for human consumption. Personally i've tried that too but honestly i don't know whether it works. Could very well have ended up as a form of carbon dosing instead.
