It has been a giant leap for a man, but one small step for mankind!!! After two desperate weeks looking in every uncle hardware store, I had been finally able to do it! It works like a charm. No noise, and the little hole in the cover is one of the greatest miracles in science! Incredible how important it is. Challenge accomplished: 0 noise, and big important security improvement.

It is a 222 cube. The aircon has been only on 3 or 4 hours because I spend most time at work. Tank temperature is around 29C-30C. I want to turn on the fan, but I don't dare because I read it increases evaporation a lot!

Note that the water level is higher in the picture because I have already top up some water. Also, the highest mark is above my safe water level in case pump stops, what means that I may only have 3 days buffer in the case I have to travel.. not even a week!

I have been monitoring the evaporation in my sump during the last week. I had added a lot of extra water and I was amazed about how fast the level was going down! I decided to put some marks to be able to evaluate it better. Each day I have added a piece of cello tape to mark the water level. The big piece at the bottom is the minimum water level for the pump to work. I have made some calculations and I am losing 2L of water per day. I didnt use the fan, lights or skimmer, the system was running only with the main pump. Is this normal??? What can I do?

Brushing didn't work... I will try to remove it with an screwdriver next... As an update, it seems to start becoming white! :-S

Affortunately I removed the clam form my tank before leaving to work, so at least things didn't get worse... *sic* This has been quite a surprise for me.. the previous day was looking fine! Why do you think it was eaten? I do not have any crab in my tank or inveterate, besides a bristle star.... It would be a surprise for me knowing that i have and unknown inhabitant!

During the last days I am also much conscious about how unsafe is the sump system: if there is any failure water can overload anywhere and make a huge mess in your apartment. I am getting paranoid about this point, and continuously checking the levels to try to prevent a clog than can suppose water coming out from the tank. I read a lot about flow valves, but most online comments seems to be against them, as they can create more problems than what they solve. The problem is that some times I need to travel for two weeks, and I will feel very worried if something goes wrong. Any ideas how to prevent it? Besides, I am trying to reduce as much as possible the level of noise from the aquarium, as it is in the living room, near the sofa. I put some wool covering outflow hole of the display tank, as it was doing a terrible sink hole noise. Do you think this is a safe solution? Or it may clog the whole a cause the water spill out of the tank?

Since the sump has been running, I have noticed that the water is much more clear! It has been almost a month since I move to this new system, and the first algae seems to start to appear. I am not sure what is it, but the sand in the side of the aquariun near a window is becoming brownish, and some circles are appearing on the glass. Shall I clean it or let it be until everything gets more stable?
