  1. No way am I an expert, but just to share my thoughts. My preferrence is for an external skimmer. Reason - When taking the cup out to clean, no chance for the rubbish to drop into the sump. I also like the concept of running the pump externally. You've already mentioned the reason, less heat transfer to the water. I did not do this for mine and ow I wish I had. Regards.
  2. One Question - If there is a color shift to red with age, will the lux level drop? If the lux level does not drop, then measurement of the lux level might not give a true indication of the serviceability of the tube. By the way, your example was with a MH bulb, I assume flourescent tubes (T5, T8, PL, etc) color shift the same way, right? Don't know. But TransInstruments is a Singapore company, so the pricing should be lower than comparable brands like Hanna.
  3. Still undecided if I want to get one. Need feedback first. Beside LUX level, I suspect color shift also happens as the bulb ages. If thats the case, this instrument can't measure it. Hopping someone with better knowledge can confirm.
  4. Was surfing and saw this item. So, I was wondering if this can be used to tell the condition of the lamps, i.e. how far gone it is. I guess I want to know if the LUX intensity of the lamp will drop with usage. If it does, then this meter will be a better gauge of when to change lamps. http://www.transinstruments.com/index1.htm
  5. Guess not many here has experience with X-10. Why don't you check with the local agent, http://www.futurehomes.com.sg/ Hope that helps.
  6. I bought 3 and release them into the tank after accumatization. One molted (at least I only saw one empty shell) in the next couple of days. All three are doing fine and competing with the fishes for the pallets I feed them! Perhaps, you place them in too small an environment. Their survival instinct took over and the strongest one dominated.
  7. Anyone know where to get such fittings in Singapore?
  8. Hi, Just want to gather some ideas on how to mount a probe in the sump? I've tried using one of the Eheim clips with a rubber suction cup, but it can't seem to be able to stick onto the glass wall. And this is a new suction cup! Any other better way?
  9. Hope not! I mixed left over Rowa (<50g) with Purephos. So for so good.
  10. The name of the shop is John3:16. Pretty good service.
  11. Be careful when doing wet areas (bathroom, veranda, laundy area, etc.) Make sure waterproofing is done correctly and contractor is a professional. Pay a bit more for this, never mind. Becasue the effect of not doing properly might only be seen after more that 6 months! Once that happens, big headache.
  12. What I did was to remove the suction cup and attach the plastic clip to a long wooden chopstick with cable ties. The chopstick I used are those used to fry yew cha kuay, but any long stick also can. At the other end, I attach a cloth peg. The nori goes into the plastic clip and the cloth peg is clip to the tank. This way, when the fish pulls the nori, the chipstick remains in position.
  13. Saw it selling in a few places, reborn and the LFS in Clementi (can't remember the name, but I think it's the one that's open 24 hours) . eAquaNature has it on the web site Look Here.. As for trying, did it before. No hard facts, but noticed some algae reduction. No measurement done, purely eye-ball the effects.
  14. I second the recommendation of Braun. Built to last! But, I notice recently that there are some models that are made in China and some made in Germany. Just so you are aware before you purchase. If you have the extra cash to spare, can look at those models that can do a wet shave. Will give a smoother shave.
  15. Don't know if there is a shop. Have not been really looking. To gat some examples of his work, do a search in Google. I'm sure there are tons of site showing his work. Example attached.
  16. If you are into paintings, have a look at the ones by Christian Lassen. Very nice.
  17. 500ml should not be a problem.
  18. I'm using a Sicce Extrema for my EV120. Flow should be 2500 l/hr at 0m head for this pump. So far so good. Pump is silent and working without problems. If you are not in favour of Sicce, can try for Eheim 1260. Not too sure if this pump is too much for your tank. You can try using a bigger diameter overflow pipe to cater for the flow. Worse case, use another skimmer! I don't think you should use a smaller pump. It will result in under-utilisation of the AquaC. Regards
  19. Anyone know the opening times for Sat and Sun?
  20. Resun FBF500 is not a skimmer. It is a Fluidized Bed Filter. Most people here use it inconjunction with a PO4 removal media (Rowaphos, PurePhos, etc) to remove PO4. As for your skimmer question, I would suggest (if you can afford it) the AquaC Remora. Very good reviews about it. If you decide to go for the Berlin Air-Lift Skimmer, be ready to change the airstone often!
  21. Don't think photoshop. I've seen almost a similar beach called Turquoise Bay in Western Australia. First time I seen so crystal clear water! However, it is possible the photographer used a polarizing filter to improve the clarity. In any case, only one word for it - Fanstastic!
  22. Ya, silly me! It's an AquaC EV120 with a Sicca Extrema. It is placed outside the sump. The air valve is opened fully and the water level is about 1/2" from the internal platform. As far as I know, it is set-up as recommended in the manual.
