  1. Hi Bobby, the algae has covered almost all the LR since the last time I saw your tank.
  2. Hi, could you share what equipment are you using for water flow as you've a BB setup. Does dirt and waste get trapped under the LR? How do you get it out?
  3. There are no shortcuts in this hobby. If you want to keep corals, get a chiller or at least a fan to cool the temp down to the recommended temperature for corals. I find it quite pointless to ask a question that you already know the answer to. You mentioned that by installing a fan would increase evaporation rate and succumb to a higher electricity bill. So why are you still asking if you should consider getting a fan since you already know its pros and cons? Regarding your question on the temperature on FOWLR, the fishes would most probably survive with a 31'C temp but it would be better to provide a cooler temp of 29'C if possible. To keep corals, you need to have a much cooler temp than 29'C. Sorry for sounding harsh but I felt that it was necessary.
  4. Bought my vagabond butterfly last Sunday. Had it for about a week, and it was feeding on flakes, frozen brine shrimp and frozen mysis since the day I bought it. Just now, came back at 3am to find my butterfly dead. It was fine when I left the house at 7pm. Feeding normally and everything. Took 2 pics of the dead fish. Appears to have some puncture wound on its body. I suspect it could be my clarkii clown as I've seen it chase it a couple of times. So, just want to reassure if its a puncture wound? Or could it be cyanide posioning? Tank inhabitants include: 9 chromis 1 clarkii clown 1 bi dottyback 1 flame goby 2 turbo snails Looks like a puncture wond at the bottom left of the fish. Did some brightening and sharpening to the pic. Its the best I could do, sorry for the poor pic as I was using my hp camera.
  5. I see some chromis there, think you've mixed them up as damsels.
  6. very nice tank.... hope you keep the updates coming.
  7. Whats wrong with keeping FOWLR? I think its not very fair to put down those who have a FOWLR setup.
  8. Hi midnight angel, I see you have a FOWLR tank if i'm not wrong, could you post a full tank pic of your tank without flash? I'm thinking of getting angels for my FOWLR too.
  9. Hi, how's the hypo treatment coming? Hope your tank recovers.
  10. Sorry, don't think there are any flowers or fruit. But if you have neighbours who like to keep lot of potted plants outside their house (sometimes like jungle) you'll most likey spot the plant.
  11. I hope anyone out here can identify this plant. Have placed the plant in a DSB with saltwater and shaded area, so far no signs of leaves turning yellow. I have used this plant before for my ex-mangrove tank which was freshwater, and it even grew roots and anchored itself into the sand. Here is the pic of the plant! Behold,
  12. Hi everyone, I don't know which forum this goes to, so I'll post it here. Please let me inform you before hand that the purpose of this thread is to discuss whether terrestrial plants planted in saltwater aquarium could extract nitrates for its own 'consumption'. It may or may not sound logical especially some people who might be skeptical and quick to jump to conclusions of disagreement. I've done some research on this, but don't have the patience to read it through. http://www.siu.edu/orda/igc/proceedings/01...%20nitrate' I'm now trying to experiment on using this terrestrial plant in a SALTWATER aquarium. Maybe it could somehow replace using mangrove plants? 1. It can survive partially submerged in SALTWATER 2. It does not require high amounts of light 3. It is easily availble However, I've not been able to identify the name of this plant nor prove that this plant extracts nitrates for its own 'consumption'. If this thread receives much interest then I would continue further by perhaps providing a picture of this plant, as I do not wish to be flamed by possible skeptics.
  13. I rather have a few scratches than a huge patch of white stains. Anyway, it doesnt seem to leave any deep visible scratches behind.
  14. Hi, used newspaper with vinegar also no use hai. I used those metal cotton wool (the one used to wash dishes) and just managed to scrub 50% of it out. The remaining stubborn stains are really giving me a headache.
  15. I tried using turpentine and vinegar to rub on the glass to remove the stains but no use. It appears to be water stains, can i try using dishwashing liquid or some other solvent?
  16. Haha still a long way... Now prac 4 at CDC. Actually want to get KTM but heard it drink petrol like free. Next time can join my friends go off road..
  17. Hey bro, any more updates? Your tank is an inspiration to me and I hope to have a setup similar to yours for my upcoming new tank. Keep the pictures coming!
  18. Taking lessons now, planning to get Yahama WR200
  19. I just love changing my tank water when its raining heavily. Because I can just siphon out my tank water out of the window. Come on, time for you all to confess what is the most 'evil' thing you've done regarding your fish tanks.
  20. Wont the overflow box make loud splashing sounds since the water level is quite low?
  21. The tank must be drilled to avoid using a siphon.
