  1. Bought May 10th this year, still under warranty. Used only about 4 months.

Very good item, quite easy to clean for a gyre and relatively quiet too (compared to other brands). But not required for me anymore as I have too many other wave makers.  Have already cleaned it up somewhat, looks and performs well. Almost new. See pics.

    Retail $370, selling $300.

    Quick update

Helping a bro nursing a lobo.

    Currently

Seems getting better. Been feeding a concoction of coral food.

    1) Reef roids
    2) Brightwell coral amino
    3) FM minS
    4) AB+
    5) Coral Frenzy
    6) Goniopower

Seems over i know lol, but i am coral food junkie haha, i tink those corals which evolve mouth, is best to feed it even though photosynthetic. The mouth is there to eat! haha. The key is to control the feeding and not over feed and crash your tank. I killed a number of acros by using too much AB+ and has since learn my lesson. This is what u call paying tuition fee in reefing emoji23.png

Surprise to find the Pom Pom crab after so long, got it before covid and tot is dead but here i find it waving its Pom Pom in the dark. The Pom Pom is actually anemones, another interesting symbiosis from the ocean, but would not recommend getting them as cant really see them in action, think they only come out in the nite.

Got another interesting inverts, a pair of Harlequin shrimps, this reminds me of the suicide squad crazy lady emoji23.png. Similar name and crazy coloration.

Very interesting creatures, the way they move is also mesmerizing. One caveat in keeping them is they are obligate feeders of starfish. Just nice i am “aquaculturing” asterina stars to feed it emoji38.png. Great at hunting asterina stars, the poor starfish hiding in small crevice also manage to find it. Another cool point is both shrimp always hang out together and never far from each other. Are asterina pests or no? So far they dont seem to disturb coral but population seems to explode so some form of biological control is necessary.

Thanks for reading and happy reefing!

Hey, just wanted to ask, how do you know you used too much AB+ and that that was the reason your sps were killed?

Ah yes, i forgot your tank is in your office! I would think 1/10 still too small for your size..i usually take the rating and divide by half :) but i think it worked out fine for you considering your setup.

I'd probably go for Arctica if I need to upgrade :) I am currently using 1/15 for my 20G and still it takes 30 mins to chill and 1/15 is rated for 40G if i am not mistaken.

Haha yep it’s not too bad for me, still ok.

Yea imo Arctica is probably the “best”’ of the currently available chillers. Except drop in coil I think that is best-est, lol.

Yea I am using Arctica and it has zero issues for me so far...just have to do servicing annually.

Wow..i am surprised that 1/10 is able to chill your reefer 350L - i would assume you would need at least a 1/5. How often does it kicks off?

The 1/10 is supposedly rated for 490L, so with the reefer 350 at approx 345L,  it is supposed to be sufficient.

My tank is in an air-con environment during the day, or at least when I’m there, so I would say it works fine. About 2-3 hours kick in one time, lasting about 30-40mins to cool. But if no aircon, it takes quite abit more time to cool, maybe 45-50mins, and kicks in more often too, maybe 1-2 hours, depending on light intensity and overall ambient temperature. Rainy days better, etc.

In hindsight I would probably should have gotten one size up. I think the rating for 490L if no intense light is ok. But I’m running T5s and LED, so current 1/10 is slightly underpowered imo.

Do update us on the setup & chiller performance :) Did you go for the Teco or Hailea?

Hey! I ended up with and Arctica DBA-075 instead. Had good experience with Arctica in the past. Plus if any issues they can do servicing on site. Running a Varios 2 as the chiller pump, lowest setting.

Performance wise not much complaints. Able to chill my water volume approx 345L (reefer 350) at 26.5c setting fairly efficiently.

I am not an expert but just to share my experience with using eheim filters and pumps have been very satified in terms of power and realiability and as for noise, its quite soft although slight humming sounds could still be heard from within 1m. Not sure how it will compare to rest though, just my views.

Thanks! Yea I ended up getting another reef octopus and it’s almost dead silent, happy with it!

  8. Yea I've had the same light spill problem. Not exactly sure who to look for if you need someone do do it for you. But if you DIY, it might be a lot cheaper. eg. one big board of  2440 x 1220 is about $35 if I recall correctly, and the shop can cut it for you $1 per cut.  http://dama.com.sg/product/pvc/

I DIY-ed mine and happy with results. You can use acrylic or PVC foam. I used PVC foam 5mm version as PVC foam is much lighter and you can use PVC glue to bond so it's pretty secure. I ended up only using less than half the 2440 x 1220 board.

For mine as its a long fixture I added hinges (strong double sided tape to attach) for easy access. See pic.cover.jpg.3d5ffa5dfbd1a15ec03bf80a65e7f41b.jpg
