IMO, Berlin system only works well for biger volume tank, a 2ft tank volume might be too small for it to work effectively. You can increase the water volume by having a bigger sump to perform both mechanical and chemical filtration. Or reduce your tank loading, eg. fish, food, etc.

I have a terror YT too, none of my new tangs and angels survive through. Then I decided to remove him to a temporary tank and place my new comers (purple tang and asfur) into my main tank till they settle down well before introduce my YT back to the tank. They might fight in the begining, but those new comers will be strong enough to defend. Now, they all house happy ever after.
