  1. Towards the end of Pongol where the Catholic Seminary,Marriage Engaged Encounter and Outwards bound. there is stretch of beach where the water is crystal clear. no sign of any algae and you can see the bottom from 2 meters. try there but is really ulu.
  2. I'd like to share how I got rid of Cyno in my Main Tub (Yes tank burst), My tub is in Natural Sunlight so I had a real Cyno problem, it was all over my rocks even over the roots of the 6 Mangrove plants I have in the tub. Din't feel like spending on salt to change water, because I was ready to give up. so I did something quiet stupid, I though hey if Cyno grows so fast wonder if we can use it for nutrient export. I got a jeri can, cut of the top drill a small hole at the bottom and fix a hose back to my tub. I ran a small pump to send water from the top in a direction so the water was moving in a slow circular motion around the sides. I used a white sheet of pastic film to cover the insides, then I took my table lamp and shined it in 24/7. Cyno grew on the white sheet like crazy, and I took it out every 3 days to partially scrap of the cyano. After 2 weeks the cyno in my main tank started turning green? ya green... Heck I had pretty much ignored my tub for the time. anyway I got a turbo snail and it pretty much ate every strip of the green as soon as it grew. Any my main tubs been clear for the last year or so and the cyano inside the jeri can has turned half green ( replaced by a more platable algae) My Mangroves are growing and thriving ever since the cyano disappeared and my corals are coming back to life. BTW I direct feed my Gonipora, Rics and Bubble Cyclopeez every other day thats alot of nutrients ... still no cyano in main tank. I've not changed my water in 5 months.
  3. Mine is the newest model... lets say it quiet 4 out of 5 times its starts... 1/5 it so loud and shakes so hard the 1.5 l bottle of kalkwater I put on top can fall off !
  4. Anyone out there own a resun 650? Can tell me if its normal for the resun to Sound and Shake like an 18 wheeler starting? when its kicks in that is... weird thing is it only does it occasionally... Anyone?
  5. I find goniporas pretty hardy. It and this other green montipora are like indestructable. they've gone through an anemone death, 2 tank crashes and a shift to natural sunlight after my last tank cracked. ( Have a reef in a tub now ) Any way its been with me for 2 years and even has a clown hosting it. all I do is target feed it every other day with cyclopeeze.
  6. Umm cut the bottom of a 1.5 liter mineral water bottle to about 3 inches. fill with coral chips, put ric in and cover with some mesh leave for 2 weeks in tank. should attach than super glue coral chip it attached to to rock. thats what I did.
  7. Man I've been waiting for ever for his Yellow Beaked Cleaner shrimp to come in... they are sooo coool.... they were doing this interesting dance in the show tank at henry's door.... beautiful!
  8. Yeah I'll be monitoring this thread closely
  9. 4 micrograms... is toxic dose... thats a very very small amount... I'm shivering all over... think I'm gonna be sick
  10. http://www.cbwinfo.com/Biological/Toxins/Palytoxin.html Guys you should read this.... its a substance found in Zoos... I got the chills just think of the times I've handled my zoos barehanded...
  11. Can someone advise me on why 2 test kits Sera & Tetra report my calsium at 660 and 1100 repectively... My KH is at 11 (Salifert) so I'm abit confused I thought Calcium anh KH levels were mutually exclusive...
  12. OMG that looks like a very useful algae... I wonder how it'll do in natural sunlight ( I keep my sump in sunlight) Where can I get a specimen? is it for sale?
  13. Umm guys for the past few months I used Tap water to topup my tank. no cyno, hari or bubble algae problems so far (6 months since my last 5+% water change) but ... this is what I did... I filled a tub with tap water 25 liters added declorinater. I then poured 3 tablespoons of pickling lime into water and cover top. wait for 1 day... for brown residue to settle siphon out the water and then used an air pump to bubble the water for 2 days. after that a white residue collects at the bottom. I get about 24 liters topup water this way. (1 liter to wastage) last me for 24 days the only problem algae I have is coraline algae...
  14. I've noticed that Ricordias have an interesting way of feeding. I feed them a mix of zooplankton and cyclopeez. As a squirt the mixture on the rics they produce a layer of mucus that gathers the particles. they then slowly suck the mucus in...
  15. Wow your very lucky to live so close to the sea... I always had a fantasy and it involved living beside the sea and huge aquarium. I even drew the pictures while fantazing. see picture -->
  16. Ok tryed it... Singapore's air is just to humid... I end up turning the Silica Gel Beads Pink to fast. Have to reheat them in oven to many times... any way The other down side is you can't control the amount of ozone going into the skimmer. think I spike my ORP to high. Gonipora really closed up for a while. Stop the thing as spent to much time rechargin the air drying agent and worried about the humming sound coming from it. Should others want to try URL is here. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/chem03/chem03254.htm Sidenote: to get the glass tube I cut a testube under water with a circular saw.
  17. How to make a corona discharge ozone generator: Get a glass tube maybe 1/4 inch in diameter. Put aluminum foil on the outside of the tube, for the middle half of it's length. Put a very thin metal wire, no isulation, inside the tube, from the end with the rubber hose to the air pump. One end of the wire is inside the part of the tube with the foil. Other end of the wire come out back end of tube. Get a fish-tank air-pump, and connect it with rubber hose to the glass tube to push air thru the tube. The wire will need to be poked thru the wall of the rubber hose to get outside where you can connect to it. Get an alternating-current (AC) high voltage supply, limited to 1 milliamp by a large resistor inside. Be careful not to get shocked. Get an adult to check your high voltage supply and wiring. Connect the supply between the foil and the needle. We want no bright sparking to happen, We want a very small buzzing sound from the glass tube to be heard. This is high-voltage corona discharge in air. I think the air that comes out of the open end of the glass tube should have fairly strong ozone in it. It might help to dry the air as well as you can before it goes into the glass tube. Anyone try this I got this of the web.
  18. Opps forgot to mention. I had a 3 foot tank at the time and no chiller my temp was a constant 29 deg.
  19. Hi I had a similar problem when I First started too. Heres what I did: Got 2 Doctor shrimps (Skunk Variety) Lowered my salinity to 1.023. every other day I Peeled a cloave of garlic Crushed it with chopsticks mixed it with distilled water (3ml) Strained the solution, mixed with food and dumped it in tank. My 2 blue tangs loved the pieces of garlic that strayed in and the Spots were gone in about a week. never came back again. I also used a buffer during this time as I feared the garlic may affect ph.
  20. Guys anybody cure STN on a Bubble LPS before? My bubble has been slowly rotting from a small cut it recieved (My carelessness) I've dipped it in Lugols (Infection slowed down for awhile) , Tryed using fresh Garlic juice to irradicate the protozaons around the area (worked for awhile) But now its starting the rot again slowlyfrom the same spot. My water perimeters are near perfect Nitrate at 0-10, PH 8.2-8.3, Calcium 420,temperature at 26 deg (tryed dropping it by 1 deg from 27 to slow bacterial action), Phosphate undectactable. I'm out of ideas I've cured STN on a Montipora very fast using the same methods... but this is one though infection... any help? Thanks alot in advance. BTW : I bought a frag of ricorda the same time it started STN could I have introduced a super bug from the caribean? anybody have a similar experience?
