  1. sharkbait, So this shaking and dosing - how often or how do you know you have to do it ? rdgs
  2. I can't agree any better. This Zeovit thing seems like more work compared to Rowas even though same cost. Everyday shake the reactor up and down 15 times ... sounds like a alot of work to me and the weekly dosing of Zeobak and zeofood. Just got to hear more story about the pro and cons before jumping to the bandwagon.
  3. I have a AZOO chiller using thermo electric. Running at 240 Watts. If you are having easy species of coral - this chiller is good - also depend on the capacity of the water. If chilling 3ft - probably hitting about 27 deg. Support up to 76 Gal according to spec. If there is anyone interested I am willing to sell as it is sitting in my store room. But no hurry to sell as this unit have serve me very well in nano tank. No sound, no maintanence. Might be thinking of a nano in the future. But for bigger tank more than 3ft - not advisable.
  4. Lemon peel a no no for sps tank .... I have a Lemon since day one also about 1.5 to 2 years .... but it never disturb my clam .... but one fine day I saw it whacking my sps polyp .... no wonder I seldom see the the sps polyp during day time.
  5. Legally you shouldn't do it but on the other hand the reef is dying whether you do it or not. 95% of the coral in the Great Barrier Reef is disappearing by 2050 and that is very near - many will live to see that day. Global warming will contribute one degree + to the water every century. Not to mention the water temp around Singappore - it will be worse. http://eces.org/articles/000788.php
  6. Try Live Brine shrimp first and then slowly use frozen Brineshrimp. My 2 cents.
  7. Before you dump her - give her a good scolding to wake her up....don't waste your last round
  8. I have used sea water before during that time i noticed the salinity was low 1.018 as you said and I bump it up to 1.025 before dosing into my tank. I gave up the whole idea because it was too troublesome - I was keeping mostly LPS and mushroom. Nothing happens but there was a lot of hydroid though.
  9. If the crown drop off - it might also mean a change in salinity. These guy are quite sensitive sometimes.
  10. I am not quite sure consider in the wild the lighting is about 800W for normal afternoon sun. I think there might be a possiblities of bulb not being manufactured properly which affect the light output spectrum but this are my guesses ..
  11. I want to capability to control the temp difference.
  12. I earn more than 10K per month - rupiah how can that be true ...so cheap !!!! You must be kidding ..... Look like everybody had 2 bottle of red wine .... not only you.
  13. Just like when Diving become popular ...many corals were abuse ...take for instance Tioman .... I believe many were dead because of commercial reasons when the diver steps on those corals or the reef were over populated with divers. They were just as guilty as us. Marine reefing has begun to mature but it takes time. We are going thru what the diver's have gone thru ... awareness... and awareness comes with a price - casualty. Like it or not - Man always destroy nature. We are merely doing our part trying to preserve what we might have destroy and "we" might be the divers.
  14. The chores of maintenance ..... my dream is to have a fully automatic water changing system in a press of a button
  15. nobody using teco chiller with non-teco controller ?
  16. T5 no kick - try those single 70Watt MH or maybe a single source bulb - you can get caustic network on the seabed .. looks more natural.
  17. Beware of Acer' support...it sucks like nobody's biz.. my colleague bang table still cannot change the laptop one to one even though there was a problem and he bought it less than 7 days. But I heard the product not bad- interms of feature and cost. For me - if you are going for laptop - get a renowned vendor becasue the parts are more proprietary and if getting a desktop - any reasonable vendor should be fine - parts are interchangeable. I also agree that HPQ support is ex but you are paying for a peace of mind.... nothing is free in this world.. with other brand I am not so sure even though you are willing to pay.. just my 2 cents.
  18. I was thinking of jellyfish tank - about a year ago... they look fascinating especially with neon lighting and stuff like that .. but you need to construct a special tank - circular one something like a tyre shape and the suction to your filtration system is at the same location as the water injecting back to the tank so that the jellyfish will not be suck into the gap.. It is a circular tank so that the jelly fish will not get tuck into a corner also if there is no flow around that area. It is definitely interesting if you are into some serious biz of keeping it but bear in mind that some of the species are from cold water ... sometimes 15 degrees and they need planktonic food frequently throughout the day.. As the marine reefing scene in singapore is picking up, I believe someone out there will get into serious biz of keeping them in a home aquarium.
  19. Get an Apple G5 .... real fast ... some more no virus problem If not ... then Hp should be the next choice at least for me .. after sales service is really good ... I think yours is an exception case but one thing when your laptop is without warranty then good luck .. the service damn expensive ... eg,.the cost to replace a hard disk can cost you 2 hard disk cost bought from SL. But you can get an extended support deal...... I have used HP all my life ... because I used to be from Hp so can get 12 %discount If you got friend working in Apple lacki better ... 50 % I think ..
  20. Try siphoning all the detritus from the rock and the sand surface (need a bit caution) - it will reduce your nitrate almost immediately to about half in fact. Sad to say it take abit discipline. My 2 cents.
  21. I used a Euro before and now using a H & S. There are a few distinct difference. Firstly, the ER skimmer behaviour is constant not like H & S - sometimes goes crazy like doing top up of fresh water.. as the salinity deviate slightly... the skimming suddenly becomes haywire .... but this didn't happen on ER ..- not sure whether others experience it. Secondly, the H & S is more trouble-some - got to tune correctly otherwise you skim only tea color but this is a plus point in a sense that ER cannot be tune so easily so if you are not getting enough skimmate then you have to do some kind of extension to the raiser tubing so that you get more skimmate. Thirdly, H & S more maintenance free becasue ER need to clear the salts in the venturi tube maybe like once in a week otherwise the performance drop whereas H & S do not have this problem. Last by not least, I find the quality coming out from a ER much more thicker compared to a H & S - though I get dark skimmate but the skimmate from a ER is like a beckett - really thick and dry. My view might be subjective as I use a ES6-1 model ((400 lit )and now a H & S (850lit model) This are some of my personal encounter - it is always good to listen to others' xperience as this is an expensive hobby. My 2 cents
  22. Rav-65 pm you. Basically the whole thing control by float switch just like your normal tubby using relay swtiches ... but instead of turning on a pump it turn on the solenoid which activate the onset of the water into the RO unit - the clean water pushes out to the tank and the waste water to my washing machine. The failsafe is of course to have 2 float switch instead one goes out you still have one more and the solenoid is a "normally turn off kind" so unless there is a current otherwise it will be turn off otherwise.. if you are kiasu you can incorporate more device like the salinity .... but this is beyond me ..
