Our tank setups are pretty similar ! except you are using a higher horsepower of chiller and better lightset !
may i know what's your temp setting and how long does your chiller kick-in / rest ?

took me less than a minute to trap it..
i'm using this kinda isolation box (available at Gemsurfs)
Open the front cover, put some fish food in and the fish will happily swim in.
Quickly slot back the cover and you are done. -

Try TDO, I have an adult mitratus butterfly with colours totally faded and revert back to its original state after 2 months of feeding on TDO. Even so, I always believe in mixing different kind of feeds together but you do have to visit different LFS for different feeds and they all carry differents brands.
yep. i mixed TDO + Henry's Gourmet + Dainichi ... thinking to add in New Era.. muahaha

what's the distance like ?
I can foresee two common pipe problems:-
1. The underground pipe might burst, leak, rupture, pipe joint loosen
2. Choke may develop along the pipes (if the horizontal pipe is long), especially at the elbows.
If i were you, i wouldn't go for underground piping
