  1. Been out of the reef scene for only a year, after selling off our 150 Gal 5ft tank, so time to get back into it, but with a Nano as I travel a lot (and May needs to be able to take care of it while I am away). Designing it myself. Design is complete now and have bought many components. Will order the tank and sump this week and will post pics once I have the tank. Will be keeping fish and some LPS. Details are: Tank: 18" wide x 17" x 16" high. (= 70 litres or 18 gal approx). Low iron/Starfire glass on 3 sides. Odd tank size is to suit the cabinet we have already bought. Sump: 15"w x 11" x 12"h. Custom design to fit skimmer, mech filter, bio filter and return pump. Cabinet: 100 cm high Teak cabinet. (we have lots of teak furniture, so cabinet must blend in). Skimmer: Bubble Magus 3.5 needlewheel skimmer (has internal pump). Return pump: Aquabee UP 2000. Chiller: Will be a Hailea HC 130. Will use the return pump also for the chiller. Lighting: MaxSpect 60W LED lighting. (I may modify the circuitry so that I can independently switch some of the LEDs to achieve a "twilight zone"). There will be no internal power head, as the return water outlet angle will be adjustable to cause water movement in the tank, and using the Aquabee 2000 will ensure a sufficiently high water flow. The concept is simplicity and low maintenance, while not skimping on water quality. We are trying to keep the budget (inc. all above equipment, tank, cabinet, etc.) to below S$1,500 (not including sand, rock and livestock).
  2. Will continue the thread about our exciting new tank here: http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89654

Will use the return pump also for the chiller. Lighting: MaxSpect 60W LED lighting. (I may modify the circuitry so that I can independently switch some of the LEDs to achieve a "twilight zone"). I am interested in reefers comments about the Hailea chiller. Total water volume will be 91 litres (inc. sump), so HC 100 should be large enough to achieve 26-27 degrees (tank is not in direct sunlight). How about noise? Are these small Hailea's quite quiet? Photo's coming soon...
  4. Yep, similar but for me the fun is designing & making it myself. Mine will have a solid teak cabinet to blend in with our other furniture. Just picked up the cabinet. Will start posting pics in a week or two when I have the tank.
  5. Tried getting out of this hobby last year when we got rid of our 5 foot 150 gal reef tank (we thought we were leaving Singapore). But, it is impossible to give up this hobby, so am starting to build a nano tank. Spec's are 18" wide x 16" deep x 16" high. Will use crystal glass on 3 sides. Want to use a Bubble Magus skimmer (BM3.5) - anyone know where I can get Bubble Magus skimmers in Singapore? Lighting will be the 60W Maxspect LED light from DE Lightings Chiller - thinking of the IceProbe thermoelectric chiller. Any comment welcome
  6. Can someone please tell me who sells the Bubble Magus skimmers in Singapore? Thanks
  7. I would like to buy the above skimmer - either new or used is OK. Please PM me here or sms to 9789 6259 Thanks
  8. Lighting system still available - final sale item to decommission my tank. C'mon make my day and make an offer See post #17 (wooden surround is easily removed by unscrewing 4 screws, to reveal aluminium light chassis) http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...st&p=845475
  9. Am thinking of using a Weipro 2011 on a 24G nano. Sound too cheapo? I used to use a larger Weipro from the same series on a 3foot reef tank some years ago and found it quite OK. Been using a Becket on my 5foot that I have just decomm'd. Will be a FOWLR tank - maybe an LPS or two later. Planning on having a sump to increase water volume - skimmer will be in the sump, out of the way. Sooo, wanting a cheap but reasonable solution for my 24gal. Comments?
  10. A pH of 8.0 wont be killing your fish. I think something else is wrong.
  11. OK.....Well, i like the idea of acrylic for clarity but know it will scratch, so that is out. I think I will settle for starphire on 3 sides with normal glass on the rear and bottom. What does "rimless" mean? "try the shop near GO...alantic or alantis" where is this "GO" (sorry for being blur). Any other good tank maker recommendations? Thanks fellow reefers!
  12. After first having a 3' then a 5' reef tank and a nano we have decided to just have a nano, as I travel so much - and it is too much for May to look after while I am away. Soooo, I am going to DIY a beautiful nano cube tank like the new Italian ones on the market but at a fraction of the price (I hope). My questions are: 1. How much price difference is there between an 18" x 18" x 18" tank in normal glass vs in starphire/sapphire glass? 2. Can you recommend a tank maker who can do a good job building a tank in starphire/sapphire glass? I have always previously used a guy in Hougang to make my tanks, but I haven't aksed yet whether he does starphire/sapphire glass. You can tell me if I am wasting my money on starphire/sapphire glass, but I do believe that it looks a lot better than normal glass. Thanks! Bruce
