  1. Ok folks, I am now in the "diatom" phase... My sandbed is now covered with them... question is... do I clear them or leave it? I have a DSB of 4"... and also, how long would it take for a DSB "nitrate export" function to kick in? Tank Specs: 24" x 18" x 18" Eheim Canister 2217 Sanders Proteim Skimmer Salinity 1.023 pH 8.3 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5
  2. No joke?!? Old 70s Stuff?!? Do marine equipment has vintage value?? hehehe... I remembered him way back too when he used to sell marine fishes... In fact, when I juz came into marine reef keeping recently, he was the first shop I could recalled. But was disappointed when I went to the shop and saw that he was selling FW.... Now that he's back in the SW scene, I would go check it out again... hehe...
  3. Yup. OHF totally not suitable for marine fishes... it's for the LuoHan Era... ahahahah... Sump or Canister... better choice would be sump...
  4. I think he means 10 mm... Nice looking tank for rustic homes... but I dun see any overflows and all... also, sump??? Perhaps, Ah-mun, u should take a picture of the lower cabinet (internal)... it's easier for us to decide...
  5. My firefish goby feeds on the pods... too much too quickly that once it was a swarm.... now I think I can count them...
  6. Besides marine fishes, I got: 1) 2 promfets 2) 10 - 15 ikan kuning 3) Assorted Tiger Prawns 4) 1 seabass They are in my fridge Best of all, my chiobu maid will "take care" of them... hehe...
  7. Go back to the article website... click on "Tank Cleaners" icon somewhere at the top... it should tell u what "Detritus Attack Pack" is about... Just another fancy "marketing-ploy" name used by the website... it's basically your tank clean-up crew... can be hermit crabs, emerald crabs, stars and all...
  8. No car better... that place only has a parking area good for four to five cars... and usually occupied... It's the small road next to Balestier Complex (Note: Not Balestier Plaza)... Good luck! But note that other stuff they are selling can be quite costly...
  9. When I was LCK110 last week, there's a cute black puppy... but I suspect it's one of those mongrel breed... Anyway, it was adorable and when I reach out my hand, it came over and let me pat it on the head... Maybe Chris idea of patting will work.. but for a big dog???
  10. Dispar_anthias, your eyes damn sharp man... I can see the naso tang only after a while... in the middle cave... Agreed.. tank size too small for naso tang... besides the blue tang will also get bigger... problems will arise in the long run... Small tank + yellow-tailed damsel (Ultra territorial) + tangs... very very bad combination...
  11. Baahh.... Damsels! I hate them.... Super territorial! I had one yellow tailed damsel before and he occcupied the whole live rock structure! I had to remove the rocks to get rid of it becoz its making mincemeat out of my other fishes....
  12. Will note that... however, I am glad to say that I have shifted the coral to another "darker" cave of the live rock and it opens shortly after! Damn chio man! Will try the removal and target feeding method.... sorry folks... I might not be giving it up after what I saw today... I mean tonight.. hehe...
  13. Never mind lah... Hokkien saying "No fish prawn also good"... The Brazilian one good enoff.... = )
  14. Ok, a stoopid mistake I made by listening to the LFS and purchase a sun coral on impulse. Having read up about it, I then realise that it's one of the hardest coral to keep... mainly because it don't need light, need strong current and require individual polyp feeding. Anyone has any experience in keeping them that they can share... the polyps are all closed and I haven't seen it opened yet even when I try target feeding it with invert filter food using a syringe... Maybe an expert would want to adopt this sun coral?
  15. Er... should be "molted" not "malted"... malt is what you used to make horlicks... Anyway, I dun think it should affect the water quality.. shells are mainly calcium, rite?
  16. if u want cheap false percula clowns, SL is still selling it at $1
  17. Ladder Glider... ladder glider... when I first heard that name from LCK110, my eyebrows were raised also... Anyway, eprouve... I heard that orange spotted goby goes for ornamental shrimps.... just watch it if u have shrimps....
  18. The white spots you see are iches... I had them on my blue tang and treated it with garlic supplement. It works... Tangs are known to be ich magnets... There are already some postings made on treating ich... will recommend u do a search on the forum. Good luck to you and your Tang!
  19. This is the second time I see people giving up "weird" stuff for a chiller... The first was a PS2... haha... the extent we will go for our fishes...
  20. How much are u selling for your prizm?
  21. Oops... should be Ladder Glider... not Slider... hehe.. pai seh, pai seh...
  22. If u wanna get one, make sure u don't get the colourful ones... though they are beautiful, they release toxins.. (very much like gals isn't it? ) Suggest u get the Tiger-tail Cucumber...
  23. Ok folks, now that I got my Royal Gramma... here's another fish that I am looking for... it's called the Sleeper Blue Dot Goby, also known as the Ladder Goby or Ladder Slider... It sifts the sand and is good for a DSB. If you come across any at any of the LFS or if you have one that you are giving up, please let me know... Thanks!
  24. I know some of the people over at AVA... most of them are true veterinary experts and they know what they are doing... I used to loathe AVA many years back when I tried to keep a ferret and was threaten with a fine if I keep it... It's only when I had the opportunity to meet them thru work recently that I understand their true reasons for being so stringent with animal imports and all... Besides possible damage to ecosystem, illegal pets often carries certain pathogens and viruses that may be harmful to us. AVA serves as a "firewall" for our already very small island nation. Can you imagine if they are not stringent at all? People smuggling in illegal pets (that are often not properly quarantined and inspected) don't know the kind of health risks they are facing... Besides, our country is very near Indonesia where most illegal animals come from (Orangs, Slow Loris, etc). It used to be that Singapore was a popular "meeting place" for illegal pet traders and buyers back in the old days before AVA (then PPD) was formed... By relaxing our law, we would be sending out a wrong message to such wildlife pet traders, encouraging them to be more open and daring.. (E.g. Taking more animals from the wild to meet the sudden surge in demand)... Aiyah, neverending story lah.. but hope this help to make us understand our laws better...
  25. Also, most of LR critters come out at night when u switch off the lights... that's my experience.
