  1. Poor fishes... I won't give a hoot for LuoHans since they are easily kept, adaptable in reservoirs or rivers if they are released... But Marine fishes?
  2. I just went on Friday.... 1) Go by BKE 2) Turn into Kranji 3) It will lead you straight up to a point where u will have to turn left... there's a temple on the left if I can recall. 4) Move down this road (still Kranji) and u will drive pass the railway track, dam and turn right u are reaching Sungei Buloh Nature Park... Have fun... got my Royal Gramma there... they also have some nice clams for $35.
  3. My blue tang eats anything! Brine Shrimp, Flake food, lettuce and seaweed... Best of all, it eats up hair algae.... Was advised that when u buy any fish, ask the shop owner to feed it... if its feeding, you will be guaranteed a higher survival rate... that's what I did when I bought my tang...
  4. I went to LCK today lunch time and finally pick up my Royal Gramma with my colleague.... $22 each Yeah!!! Hurry cause only a few good ones left!
  5. Hey guys, Sori but I dun have a picture to explain my situation. Every evening when I am back from work, I see clumps of my substrate on my sandbed (around 5cents big). Upon closer inspection, I notice that the clusters were lumped together by some translucent black gooey stuff... When I try to stir it up or remove it, I find it difficult cause the substrate are lumped together by this stuff... I wondered whose the culprit in the tank that is spewing this... anyone has a similar experience and know what's the possible cause... I suspect is some coral but not sure which one... I have mainly shrooms... Thanks...
  6. open flower? You mean feather dusters.... they are tubeworms as well...
  7. Is the collection cup detachable??!?!?! If it is, it will be funny to watch the man pouring out the scums.....
  8. ok.. that's a lot for a two feet... How much is too much? That depends on many factors; the size and shape of the system, filtration, aeration. maintenance, the kind of livestock, it's size, feeding, temperature, and a whole lot more. As a real good rule of thumb I'll say five gallons per cubic inch of livestock is about right. This is a very general measure, purposely vague, and with a larger-than-most margin for error; but it will do for almost all circumstances... If yours is a standard 24' x 12' x 12'... u only have 15 gallons...
  9. Instant bacteria in a bottle has a very short lifespan. With shipment and all, would recommend you check the expiry date before purchasing if you really want to use it... Sometime, the die-off in it are so high they can't even guarantee if you are getting "live" bacteria before the expiry date. Nothing beats natural... I would suggest you to be patient and stick to the "natural" way for the bacteria to establish by itself... Nature law is such that everything is perfected in nature's own time... man interference would shift this balance sometimes in favor and sometimes not... It all depends on you actually whether you wanna take the risk. I would stay away from these products if I am you... The "instant" tanks that you see in some LFS with fishes in them does not mean you can keep fishes the same way they do... You must remember that LFS has a different objective from us reef-hobbyist.. They are business oriented $$$ and can't afford to wait for their tanks to be well-established before adding fishes... their fishes are in there for short term unlike us... you cannot be ascertain of their water quality esp for LFS with their so-called "instant" tanks.. All these in my humble opinion...
  10. Overstocking alone is bad enoff... I also notice that in your old set up, you have moved the LR around... disturbing your LR too much will cause some LR die-offs and give your tank an ammonia spike... Also, moving your LR around with fishes in your tank can cause serious stress to your fishes making them sceptical to diseases.
  11. Thanks for the info, seahorse... i was just kidding actually... Actual fact, I work near LCK110 (Neo Tiew Cres).. somewhere in Mandai... so will drive there and drop by tomorrow lunch time to pick up mine... hehe... Cheers!
  12. Do snails feed on diatoms??? I thot they only eat hair algae... I had one turbo who was killed off savagely by my blue-legged hermit...
  13. Haha.. how about this... Wrong: CleanUr Arse Right: Cleaner Wrasse...
  14. I know... due to some embargo strike going on at the Carribeans... If you see a skinny starving fellow in a sleeping bag outside some LFS, could be me waiting for months for RGs.... hehe.. RGs are great because they are brilliant in colour, good for nano tanks and more importantly, peaceful in nature... perfect combi in one!
  15. 4 inch for 2 - 3 footers, 6 inch for 4 footers and above.. I just created a DSB recently. Wash your sand first. To add without creating a "sandstorm" in your tank (esp if yours is sugar-fine 0 grade). Put your sand in a big durable plastic bag, cut off a corner.. and just like a master pastry chef, have fun "creaming" the top of your sandbed... Hehe...
  16. Aiyah!... maybe I shouldn't have posted this thread and created the excitment of people keeping RGs... now so many competitors leh.. hahhahaha... Maybe must resort to bringing my sleeping bag and camp over night at the door step of LFS... perhaps they will throw in some Hello Kitty dolls also...
  17. I got some more... hehe... Wrong: Lawnmower Benny (A gardener whose name is Benny) Right: Lawnmower Blenny Wrong: Damnsels or DamnSirs (Cursed NS Officers) Right: Damsels Wrong: Boorish Idol (Ruben of American Idol?!?) Right: Moorish Idol Wrong: Volatile Lion. Cheebra Lion (One's explosive and the other's real horny) Right Volitan Lion, Zebra Lion Specially for AT: Wrong: A-Chilli Tang ("Hiam Cheow" Tang) THIS IS THE BEST: Wrong: Dragon Arse Correct: Dragon Wrasse
  18. If I am not wrong, just like crabs, lobsters are scavengers... eat anything... Errgh, u starting up a small seafood business issit??? heheh
  19. Dear all, Actually AVA is really strict about illegal pets for many reasons besides the fact that some species is endangered. IMO, PNT is not really endangered. However, the worry is that when such "foreign" species/animals are brought into Singapore, they are really destructive to our ecosystem or even us, if say someone release them into our jungles/waters should they get tired of it. Once they multiply, they would "snatch" resources and become a competition for our native animals. Also, some foreign species, if smuggled without proper quarantine could contain possible pathogens or bacteria. No joke, where I work... I learnt about all these from the "experts"... Even snakes, if not properly housed or cared for, can contain certain pathogens on their skins... Take the classic example of the red-ear terrapin which is cheaply available at all LFS. Its actually not a local species but from America. They were vastly imported back in the 70s - 80s. Look at our reservoirs and ponds now and you will see hundreds and thousands of them. They wiped out three native species of terrapin found in Singapore due to food/territory competition. A mistake that is hard to correct now... For those who think about getting foreign illegal species... I therefore urge you all to really think twice... They are declared "illegal" for a very good reason... Sea Turtles are illegal for keeping and is set by an international protection law (not Singapore). You will be in trouble keeping carcasses of it, let alone a live one.
  20. I heard that mantis shrimps are standard seafood fare in Hong Kong.. Not sure how they would taste... they are called "pissing" shrimps over there... I wonder why????!
  21. Wah! Like dat also can ah... Who wants my grandmother's sewing machine... can exchange? hehe
  22. Arrgghh.... dun snatch all leh... ask the shop keep one for me... sea monkee definitely going down!
  23. Thanks pals... I know the difference actually between royal gramma and royal dottyback... (esp the cost) In fact, I have had one unscrupulous LFS trying to pass off royal dottybacks to me as royal grammas at $25... somemore tried to convince me that it is already discounted. They think I stoopid izzit... The actual story I heard abt the "royal grammas" being unavailable is that there is some strike going on around the Carribean area and hence we won't be expecting any at this time.... But hey, princess.... thanks anyway for trying to help... If u guys saw any at one of your trip down to any of the LFS, I would appreciate if you can keep me informed.
  24. I had my experience of ich before and was told by the LFS that garlic (I used Kent Garlic Xtreme) ONLY works hand-in-hand with Kent Rx.P (Pepper Solution)... Not sure how true it is... apparently, the storeowner said that garlic added to food will help "raise" the temperature of the fish internally.. Very much the same experience when u drink a hot bowl of "garlicky" Bak Kut Teh... This helps to expel the ich that is embedded deep in the fish especially those living in the gill but DOESN'T KILL IT. The Kent Rx.P (Pepper Solution) is to be added to your tank at intervals and the pepper solution is the one that "kills" the ich... Anyway, I tried and it works... amazingly, garlic... becoz of its strong smell, is also good in luring the picky eaters to eat what you give... In less than a week, all my fishes were free from ich... One important note: Kent Rx. P (Pepper Solution) is irritable to some invertebrates, cucumbers, apples. It says too that it is not recommended for Lion fish and scorpion fishes... hmmpph, I wonder why? Rx.P is damn strong & once it touches your finger.. MAKE SURE YOU DUN RUB YOUR EYES... I did it anyway "out of habit" and my eyes were screaming for the next few minutes.. The perfect concoction for those who wants to make a "Pepper Spray" for their girlfriends... hahaa...
  25. Sorry pals! It's juz so coincident that Anemone got what I need and he needs what I got... How often does this happens anyway?
