  3. Nice tank and beautiful sps! Welcome to this forum!
  4. I may be wrong, but this is what I understand. Fully open doesn't mean best performance, because it's a balance of air intake, rated pump (litres/hr), size of skimmer (diameter, height). Too much air may create turbulence in the skimmer body, lowering the foaming performance. That's why there's an adjustable air intake for u to adjust to try to get the "sweet spot". This is a quote from Reefkeeping.com: The airflow rate entering a skimmer should produce a full upward blossom of bubbles without excessive turbulence, and is theoretically determined as a function of skimmer diameter, length, bombardment rate and absolute contact time.
  5. 3ft x 1.5ft tank. Fishes have 1 yellow tang, 3 damsels, 7 pajama cardinal fish, 1 six-line wrasse.
  6. After 1.5 days of skimming, I'm impressed!!!
  7. Apologies for the pics. Dunno why all the pics are horizontal! Anyone knows how to rotate the pics in the post?
  8. Place the skimmer into the sump and fired it up. Waiting for skimmer to "break-in". I was really surprised how fast the skimmer "breaks-in" and started foaming. I turned on the skimmer at about 5pm, went out for dinner, came back at 9pm, and found the skimmer foaming! I fine tune the skimmer by trial-and-error. Adjusting the air intake and water level, then observe how they affect the skimmer performance. Lower the water outlet valve slightly to increase the water level in the skimmer body, and reduce the air intake very slightly. The foam looks slightly "thicker"
  9. Just bought the Skimz Oval SV203 Skimmer over the weekend and decide to share my experience with this skimmer. Chose this model as the footprint is small, it's narrow breadth-wise, so able to easily fit into my makeshift sump. It is powered by a 3000L/hr controllable DC pump, rated wattage 9-19W only. The one big big plus I like about Skimz skimmer is this: Removing the 4 plastic screws at the base allow you to dismantle the whole skimmer, u can basically wash everything including the internal bubble plate for easy maintenance! Oval SV203 is slightly less than 8 inch wide. Like the overall sleek and nice design of the Skimz Oval.
  10. Selling away my Upflow Algae Scrubber (UAS) with Red LED set. The LED set consist of 5 x 3W red LEDs (4 red, 1 white) I made this UAS by letting it stand on it's own via egg crate stand in the sump, and the LED lightest placed horizontally on the sump glass to shine on the screen. There's no cover behind the scrubber mesh as I wanted the lights to shine thru on the chaeto in the sump as well. This UAS works very well and I've run it for a year. I've removed the UAS yesterday and kept the mesh screen bubbling in tank water to prevent the algae from dying off. Buyer can scrape off the algae and start UAS immediately without having to wait for algae to start growing on the mesh. The red LED is also good for just growing Chaeto in the refugium as well. Size of red LED housing is 1ft long. Selling the set for $40. Interest contact me at 93874620.
  11. Nice set up! Careful of the pratas under your AI lights. The strong LED may bleach the pratas.

  19. Nice prata! Prata generally require low lights and low to moderate flow. Too much light will cause pratas to bleach very quickly, so be careful about that. Too high a flow and the prata won't open fully and sometimes the flow will blow at the flesh till the skeleton are exposed. You can supplement the prata by feeding it a small piece of market prawn once a week. Do not try to feed it too big a piece, just a small little piece of prawn will do. Enjoy your nice prata!
