  1. include the pic of the person holding the pup too?? just kidding....
  2. ok thanks bros for the advices! Now i'll need to change out my bio-rings and put in the carbon pack again haha Hopefully more detailed precious advices will keep coming!!!
  3. hi blueheaven, can be more specific? Cos my skimmer is skimming out blackish soot so i'm worried abt my water quality. I was recommended carbon OR bio-ring by 2 different pple. Which one shld i trust? And wouldn't carbon allevate the problem of algae?
  4. hi bro, Care to share the full details of how u design and assemble the sump? Including materials used and mechanical specifications?
  5. Hey guys, I just made a trip to Reborn earlier this week. The moustache ah pek was manning the equipments store upstairs and he recommended me the carbon pack in a bag (think it's the aqua-pro II and comes in a container kind, outside says remove ammonia and nitrate) and advise me to stuff it into my overhang filter, saying it's very good and kinda a MUST thing to get. However yesterday i went to a shop specialising in aquarium set-up near my workplace and the lady boss there told me carbon is for freshwater aquariums and she was very puzzled by why I was recommended that product in the first place. I then went on to purchase the ceramic bio-ring she recommend and replace my carbon pack in my overhang filter with the bio-rings. Yesterday just cleaned my skimmer, cos the collection tunnel is surrounded by black "soot". Nitrate remains high. Can anyone advice me on which is the right thing to do?
  6. Hi bros, Can anyone advice me on wad type of lightings for my aquarium? My Specs: 2 ft x 14" x 1 ft Livestock: 1 x tomato clown 2 x true percula clown 1 x cleaner shrimp 1 x hermit crab 1 x bicolor angel 1 x damsel 2 x BTA (1 big 1 small) 1 x button polyp Thanks!!
  7. One of the percula is always bullied and the other is left well alone! The battle-hardened percula already left only abt half a tail and the back fin is almost gone!! But this has been a week or 2 already. It has now resorted to hiding under a rock "cliff" and seems to stay there all day long. How can i nurture the percula back to its former glory? Can separating the anemones allow one of it to protect the perculas?
  8. Thanks bros, I witnessed first-hand the cleaning efficiency of the hermit. But... 1. Since the hermit can kill my boxer, doesn't it also means it can attack my fishes too? 2. I've read that the hairy red hermits are not reef-safe and pose a danger to fishes, corals and inverts, how true is that? My livestock include 1 adult tomato clown, 2 true perculas, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 blue-legged hermit, 2 bubbletips, 1 damsel. Planning to get a cheapo polyp soon. Plus, there's the added risk of the hermit toppling over my rocks right?
  9. Another thing, Few weeks back, I took out my boxing shrimp from the main tank as it look quite aggressive. At the same time where i took out the boxing shrimp, I got a left-hand hairy red hermit crab. Placed them in a small tank separated by a plastic. After a few days, I removed the plastic and observed them for a few days, and they seems to be living together quite happily although there's some hostility at first. After abt 1 week, I woke up one morning and saw half the boxing shrimp in the crab's mouth. One of it's "clipper" was still intact with the body but the other was torn to shreds and all ard the tank. All these while, I've been feeding both frozen brine shrimp. Can anyone explain this phenomenon? 1. The crab attacked and ate the shrimp? 2. The shrimp died by itself and the crab ate it? 3. At first I was thinking of adding the hermit to the main tank, now having 2nd doubts. Anyone can advice me whether to add into main or not?
  10. Hi Guys, Some questions which required solutions: 1. I have 2 BTAs. One was small and the other really huge. Due to the constrainst of my tank (2 x 1.5 x 1.5), They're placed reallly close together, almost side by side. It has been like this for ard 2 months. Will there be any problem for them both to be so close together? 2. I have an adult tomato clown and 2 true perculas. The tomato is always targetting one of the percula. And it is hogging BOTH the anemones!! If I decided to shift one of the BTA away to the other end of the tank, in your opinions, will the tomato leave this anemone and let the 2 perculas host the anemone? Thanks to those who bother to answer me.

    DIY sump

Bros, I'm planning to DIY a sump, but no ideas how to go about it. Any suggestions from the experts here? My tank is only 2 ft - 20gallons, so I'm looking at a simple sump. Current skimmer is the most basic air-driven one. And using a overhead filter. Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to DIY one? And the equipment needed, such as wad pump to use, wad bio-media etc.? If possible can use the skimmer i currently have?
