  1. How harmful are Singapore tap water additives after the chlorine is removed?

Singapore water although is clean by it is not pure enough for a reef tank. Some might even contain little copper

If you are looking for cheap water, you can consider buying NSW from local fish shop or you can buy pure distilled water (LIFE) from NTUC. 12 bottles of 1.5L cost $5.50.

  2. Should be velvet, since your corals are doing fine, if water parameters are off, corals will show sign before fishes.

Your sg might be high, but its not the cause for fishes death. Try to get a refracto asap. :)

  3. Thanks guys,

I've tried using fan for the previous 2 ft tank but the water temp cant reach 27Deg could be due

to my house temp. too. Anyway I will try using fan again 1st and at the same time maybe wld consider

    a chiller.

A chiller will save you alot of trouble as compared to cooling fan. The evaporation rate of cooling fan is too high, and you need to constantly top up water, somemight have difficulties getting pure fresh water for top up and some uses over night tap water which is very wrong...

  4. Guys im a bit lost bout the mangrove.

Bro Tunicate, i cant visualize when u said floating on styrofoam?

Can explain more or any useful link?

Mine sump is two compartment for 3 ft.

Current set up, 1) for filters, media

    2) skimmer and return pump.

    Btw im keeping Fowlr.

    Thanks

The main prupose of a floating styrofoam is to ensure that the mangrove is able to stand. By poking holes just nice for the mangroves to be slotted in, the root will be submerged into the water and the leaves/top part must be out of the water. Do ensure ample lighting are given.

  5.

Many thanks bro. Appreciate your kindness to reply. I shall heed the advice. By the way, what kindda of mangroves can I adopt? Should I apply lights to these mangroves? :ThanxSmiley:

Yes you must apply light to the mangroves, as they are above water level and will continue to grow, please ensure that they have sufficient growing space before you decide how far your light stretch should be.

Plaase note that mangrove need cleaning of the leaves with fresh water weekly or biweekly, do ensure your do that to remove excess salt from them.

  6. What type of clown are you keeping now? Is it normal percular/common clown? They will be fine in a school, as for the size of the anemone, a big one is sufficient to house all of them.

Do note that anemone is an invert that requires good water parameter, they requires strong lighting as well. If you are using 4 x T5 HO or >150 watt MH light, it should be sufficient. If you are using normal t8 light tubes, you will have to upgrade your lighting before getting an anemone.

The anemone will moves around until it found a suitable spot for itself, sometimes the spot that it likes will not be a spot that it can show its intense beauty for the tank, you might have to consider.

Yellow tail do you mean damsels? The anemone will eat fishes that go near it, but damsels should be fast enough to avoid their tentacles. Bubble tip are not so dominant, if your get carpet, it might kill more slow moving fishes. From my previous experience, my carpet have killed some fishes like fox face, butterflies and even purple tang.

  7. The whole process takes about 1 month from the day you drop a dead prawn or dead fish in.

By using dog poop, you will have to check if there are other toxic chemical that are not suitable for BB, corals and invert like copper.

I would suggest you to remove the dog poop if it is still there and replace it with a dead market prawn. :)

  8. You should just have 3 options for your poll, it will help and it will not help, and I don't know, it will be easier to help you gauge.

Mangrove will certainly help in reducing the PO4 and NO3 within your tank, but you have to do certin duties like washing the leaves with fresh water in order to remove the excess salt. You will require a lot of mangroves in order to see visible results, but one thing I don't like about mangrove is that they will tend to grow up to where your light is, you will have to trim it often, unless your light and the water surface is quite a distance away.

But still caulerpa is the best in controlling nutrients.

  9. Don't worry about nitrites. Your primary concern should be of ammonia. NO2 can be hundreds of ppm without killing marine fish.

More on kH. Think your kH test kit measures in meq/L, simply multiply the reading by 2.8 to get dKH.

I don't really agree, ammonia and nitrites should be completely zero, please bear that in mind.

Any trace of NO2 can kill your live stock in the tank.

The one that will not kill your fishes is Nitrate, not nitrites.

Please cycle your tank completely before placing any livestock in.

    NH4 --> NO2 --> NO3
