  1. Just bought a female blue throat trigger from ML this evening. Heard from Henry that the fish is cool, cute with character and reef safe. I used to have a pink tailed trigger that attacked clams. Henry told me that this lady should be tamer and gentler than that. Since I got no clams, This fella is frightened in new environment and "locked" herself to the rock. Her eyes is roaming around, observing
  2. Most of the reactors are easy to install. The only "tricky" part is fine-tuning, ie the optimal bubble count that gives you the right PH that dissolves the required amount of Ca to meet the needs of your corals. This fine-tuning and regular testing of water will take a few days until such time the readings are constant at your desired level Generally, local produce is cheaper and the makers can be reached easily for servicing.
  3. The basic design of the reactor is the same as my older one from Coral Lab which is based on Korallin 1501. Both my old & new reactors served my purpose well, except that I needed a bigger chamber to meet the demands of my hungry corals The only difference between the new and older one is the add-on and facelift.
  4. Lastly, I need to emphasise that I am only a end-user and has no biz involvement in RM. This review is done voluntarily out of satisfaction and I think it is a GREAT & WORTHY product to talk about
  5. Overall, I like the design and the features very much. They are very well thought of and easy to calibrate. The bigger chamber also helps to meet the coral Ca demand. You can also see more coraline algae everywhere
  6. This filter will prevent the media from being sucked into the maxijet.
  7. Just don't know why, I'm very impressed with this re-circulation thingy
  8. This protruding portion helps to trap the air for release when changing media or CO2 for re-circulation. I like this innovation very much as it makes changing media much easier
  9. Impressed by the design & workmanship: The bubble counter is nice and can be clipped (the white holder) anywhere depending on the cabinet constraint. The bubble is small and the incremental change in the count is relatively more stable compares to bigger bubble. The transparent portion of the PVC (ie where water & CO2 as well as the recirculated CO2 is pumped into the chamber) allow the user to know if the pump is working or running dry The maxijet consumes less electricity and produce little heat
  10. Hi This is my "new" (@4 months old) Ca Reactor from Reef Maniac
  11. I have been attending WP rallies since last Friday, 3+ hours of standing per evenning . Best of all, it has nothing to do with me as my place was a walkover . Very interesting, entertaining and fun and it's free Go and experience it. Afterall it's once in 5 years. Miss now, then got to wait for 5 years.
  12. Once the tank is fully cycled, the bacteria in the LR is sufficient for ANN
  13. The top MUST be above water surface There is the extension for the box to move further into the water. But ultimately, the top MUST be above water surface
  14. I have 2-3 inches from water surface to the bracing. If you have less than that, you may have to lower the water level by breaking more "teeths" at the overflow. I believe 2.5 inches should be the least you have to have the wavebox. I have a gap betw the tank and the bracing (specially done by Mr Lim Han Teck, the maker of the tank) and magnet no required in this case
  15. I believe once your tank is fully cycled and has thriving community of fishes and corals, there is no need for these media
  16. The only disadvantage is when detritus accumulate over time, the place will become a nitrate factory
  17. A few years ago, gonio is very diff to keep and it will recede after some time, for no apparent reason. So it can look healthy for a few months, then it recede. But now, I dun know whether there is any change in the know-how to keep it well for long However, I was fortunate to meet Anthony Calfo when he was in Singapore and he mentioned that red gonio is the easiest of all gonio to keep and can stay healthy for a long time. If you have clown fish and it adopt gonio as its host, then the gonio may not do well as its tentacles are disturbed and not extended Hope this helps
  18. Yes, it does . Cut a small piece and place the prawn on its tentacle, and enjoy watching
  19. Very nice frogspawns Put a small piece of prawn or your suncoral food onto the tentacle and you can enjoy looking at its feeding style
  20. Many reefers keep soft & hard corals together. One way to remove the toxin is using granular activated carbon and regular water change. From what I read from RC, some SPS reefers avoid soft coral as some of the soft coral can attack and suffocate the sps, while some sps are sensitive to soft coral toxin. That is the reason for me to have little or no softies in my tank.
  21. exceptional service from Henry - he cut it for me
  22. Actinic tube in generally, is not intense and therefore, the bigger the wattage, IMO the merrier The only regret is that I shoud have explored the 65w 2ft PL option. Reef Depot has no 55w stock and I bought the 2 pc of 39w (1.5ft). I have seen an awesome sps setup with 3x250MH, 6xT5 blue & 2xT5 actinic. The colour of the physical coral (not the lighting effect) is fantastic and out of this world. As such, I believe that together with MH of 6.5k-14k and lots of blue light, the coral pigment may adapt to more intense colouration.
