  1. Unlike so many of you might think, Semifasciatus is not rare , but the survival rates are very poor. That is on collecting and travelling..They do less good than for instance watanabei or bellus ,while coming from even somewhat deeper grounds.

At drop offs it is typical use to "juice" the fish and the semi's are no exception to the rule.If anybody tells you they are "net caught"the likely mean the net they will use to get the fish packed for you in the shop ,because it is utterly B S !!

Then pin the bladder and "up "they go!!Kept in bags with dirty water, high levels of amo and whatever there might be in there ,but not improving the status of the fish... After some 4 or 5 days. getting only re-oxynation twice or so, they reach Manila...in bags with a temperature of 32 centigrade....... NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!!!!!

Would it not be great to have somewhat more awareness within the hobby and therefore the hobbyists?

Johan...thanks for your posts - they are a breath of fresh air! From your posts, I can see that you are one of the few collectors/exporters that really care for the fish, more than the all important dollar! :welldone:

Looking forward to the day when you will provide the world with tank bred specimens of the rarer angels! :groupwavereversed:

  2. IIRC these 2 are available at CF right now - was there just yesterday.....

Apolemichthys xanthotis, a rare angelfish from Red-sea that occasionally enters the trade. But in singapore we can only dream of getting this fish becos our redsea supplier are rather useless in providing other fishes except for purple tang and golden butterfly.

Centropyge flavipectoralis, a common and unpopular dwarf angel posted earlier by lemon. V few pple are able to see beauty in this fish.

  3. Linki is ugly grey, deepwater and rare and will remain rare forever. The cuban gramma is beautiful but not rare, it's jux tat its habitat has no collection. But now tat it's discovered, it will soon be a marine staple when someone open up a collection point at cuban targetting this beautiful gramma.

It's already being collected....De Jong has shipments from Cuba, and that's how it was discovered - in a shipment from cuba, and they type specimen likely those first specimens.

  4. Mine are "fighting" as well. However this does not mean they are of the same sex. When I was pairing red head gobies the dominant fish will chase the smaller fish. Turns out the bigger fish is the male.

Probably the only way to be certain is to wait for the fish to grow larger. As long as they are not doing much damage I would'nt be too worried.

Hmm...I've never seen any of mine "fight", of show any form of interaction before - and that includes groups of 4-6.

  5. Looks nice.....The 12k's look like they still put out a nice amount of blue.

Somehow I don't really like those Tertial lights - maybe reminds me of studying  Thinking of the barometer series floor lamps instead although those are much more than Tertials! Might have to use one of those PAR38s on my Dymax pico as the stock lamp sucks - only 30 PAR at the bottom and 40+ at the top! :(

FYI... if you could have waited, NP biopellets will be available here :)

  6. Ok have to keep this hybrid thingy going:

Maze Angelfish or also known also as orange-face angelfish (Chaetodontoplus cephalareticulatus syn.chrysocephalus)

Thought to be hybrids of Blue-line (C.Septentrionalis) with Gray Poma (C.Melanosoma) or Blue-Line with Blue-Spotted (C.Caeruleopunctatus).

Every maze angels are different and unique in terms of the scribbled stripe patterns and body colours etc and the more hybrid qualities it shows the higher the cost of the fish (anything from $500 upwards to $2000). These beautiful maze angels are only found in small area of Taiwan's reefs and as such has never been seen in Singapore because our LFSs dun bring in Taiwan shipment.

Below are the 3 species (all of which are commonly found in our LFSs and u should know which are which) responsible for the hybridization:

Not quite correct - Pinnacle has brought in maze angels before at least once or twice from Taiwan
