  1. you can consider a dymax IQ3. I hv one keeping 2 nemo and a boxer shrimp, no corals. sample pic here, not mine
  2. hi, may i know where did you get these fake corals? I hv been searching for it for quite some time. They are nice.
  3. It finally moves to another location after being motionless for a few days. now it is again motionless at the new location, this time on the acrylic wall. doesn't seem to be feeding, can't see its mouth. i think not harassment by tankmates
  4. did not check nitrate. but one purple boxer in tank is doing fine. Thought shrimp are more susceptible to nitrate level?
  5. that is what i thought too :-) but, why it stays motionless for days?
  6. hv put a small turbo snail into my pico. it moved around for a while [one or two days], eating, then suddenly it remains stationary at the same spot on one of the rock. Is it dead? Tried using a forceps to remove it but it stuck very tightly to the rock.
  7. oh! i hv cut about 2 inch. Does it mean it will no longer skim out the "good stuff" or only performance will not be as good, with the shorter column?
  8. maybe hv not break in. got the IQ skimmer when i bought the IQ5 from aquaempire. it is meant to be slotted into the middle compartment. but i shorten tube to insert into my IQ3
  9. i hv modified the IQ skimmer meant for IQ5 to be used on my IQ3 by sawing away about 2 inches of the tube. would this affect skimmer performance? now the bottom side of the collecting bowl is touching on the top edge of the tank. The bubbles from the air-wood, however, don't seem to be very small. Anyone tried using this skimmer on their IQ5? and managed to get the "good stuff" out?
  10. think the term should be diatom? patches of brown on the wall.
  11. will the snails make scratches on the acrylic surface with their shells?
  12. what is the most suitable cleaning crew for pico like IQ3? brown algae forming on acrylic wall and sand liao
  13. apparently it did come out to eat during the night. saw some thin-long shit near its hiding place. But if it always hide there, then cannot see its beauty liao. LOL
  14. garlic guard? what is that:-) ya, i also hope it will sneek out at night to eat. hv sprinkled some food on the sand floor.
  15. hv just bought a blue boxer and a clownfish and firegoby to put in my new pico. Noticed that the blue boxer has been hiding behind rock for the past 3 days. didnt come out to feed even the other 2 were feeding. is it normal? how could i get him feeding.
  16. hi, i hv not much success in keeping corals but like to hv a reef-live environment for the fishes. wonder where to get artificial corals that looks like those from instant-reef.com they don't seem to ship to singapore.
  17. Actually dont need to decom mah. Since the tank is small, just carry the whole thing over lah :-) Thought that is the advantage of having a nano or pico tank. Portability. Yah? Btw, love your tank. Has been following your thread. In the process of converting my IQ3 [chucked in the storeroom for one year] to a marine in my office too.
  18. IMHO, things that need to be done have to be done. the only means i think of to let us have more enjoyment is how we could "automate" all these necessary processes eg water changes, parameters checking etc etc. the more we can automate, the more time we can spend enjoying, ya? but it also means more $$$$...... but of course, to some, doing all these necessary chores is a form of enjoyment too.
  19. Balanced Ca is: 446 ppm at 12 dKh Alk i hv used the calculator to compute the amount of seachem reef buffer to add from 10dkH to 12dkH. but dont quite understand by balanced Ca?
  20. any adverse effect on coral if dH is much higher than 12?
  21. what is the best cleaner for tank glass diatoms?
  22. tried the recipe today. mixing 15ml of heinz distilled vinegar with 1/2 teaspoon of kalk. all dissolved except a little particle left. then add in distilled water to 1 litre. the final pH was about 6 . Is this normal?
  23. this is cool! btw, can i mix kalk with distilled water first and then slowly add in vinegar till all the kalk dissolve? or do i need to follow the proportion strictly?
  24. understand that we need to let the milky solution settle down before dosing. why is this so? can i pour the whole thing into my remote sump, which is not linked to my tank?
  25. Instant Ocean hydrometer is not bad too, IMO I hv checked it against refractometer reading, seems to be quite spot-on
