  1. to confirm again, your OFB (Overflow box) is not an I-Box ? I~box is a true authenticated original (to be patented) masterpiece by our fellow reefer. what make is your OFB ? maybe some pics would also help.
  2. Have been using I~box since July 2003. No problem so far, never once lost siphon, that is for more than 6 months continuous run. Also do not notice any slow down in flow rate. BTW, the flow rate is actually controlled by the return pump, and will only be as fast as the return pump can carry. I am using SICCE IDRA 1300L/hr on a 2ft.
  3. i c i c. maybe maintenance done during off office hr ? Don't see any lights on top of the tanks. Must be Fish only. Cleaning algae off those glass will be back breaking.
  4. They probably get someone else to maintain those tanks. Don't think their employment criteria is "able to maintain Marine tank" BTW, I believe this is a Travel Agency from the Land Down Under. Just received this pic from a friend, do not have full details.
  5. I read somewhere, it recommended to have abt 1/4 tank full with LR. Anyway, all the best with yr new setup.
  6. your 2 ft must be really tall What is the depth of your water with the 4 inch DSB ? IMO, additing more LR will make your tank looks better
  7. IMO, clearing the sandbed to start all over is a bit drastic. Maybe, U can add more liverock. my 2 cents.
  8. don't think having refugium will help you reduce algae. As long as the condition is right: light, nitrate, phosphate, silicate are present, they will be algae; no matter main tank or refugium.
  9. ...so can build underwater castle for mermaids Using brick, never try it myself, thought someone may have try... Just an idea, don't know it sound so incredible... By making DIY liverock, we are making a little effort to protect the environment. Believe at some parts of the world liverock harvesting is banned. However, our greatest limitation is space. If I have a backyard or garage I would definite try DIY. It's fun and can create any shape desire. Garf Web site has some good examples. There is also video recordings showing the process.
  10. Brick why not ? Those red brick has porous surface should be able to cultivate bateria. Believe some LFS also using brick in tanks.
  11. How to tell whether the concrete is really cure ? Can we use normal brick as liverock ?
  12. IME, the Caulerpa definitely survive better with stronger light. And the 18w PL bulb is cheap. Sunlight, 6500K one only cost less than $7 ea.
  13. When not enough light, the Caulerpa looks like dying, ie, turning white.
  14. 6 pcs of Mangrove pods. Red mangrove... I think it is.
  15. no... meant to initially, but tank too small
  16. Quoted from Photosynthesis and Photoadaptation, by Sanjay Joshi Mother nature comparison with a typical aquarium lighting. Another approach...
  17. Getting just slightly better since I got it. For 2 months now. I am happy just to maintain it. It looks quite interesting, one of those impulsive purchases. Should have gotten a Montipora...

  22. Thanks FuEl. It does look like a Platygyra sp. (Platygyra Brain Worm Coral). The piece is flatten. Most pics I came across has dome shape.
  23. Anyone has any idea what coral is this ? After light off, there are small, transparent tentacles, length abt 1 inch. Thanks in advance.
