  1. Get a protein skimmer...definitely. Air driven is ok only if you're using a good air-driven skimmer...e.g. Red Sea Berlin Airlift (very ex for an air driven skimmer, but definitely very good...I've refused to get rid of mine even though I've upgraded to a Remora) Under gravel filtration not good...my tank was setup similar to yours...nasty diatom and green algae problems. If you want a low cost setup, suggest you read up on setting up a plenum/dsb. Many use such a setup for their sump...so that means that my 3ft tank is really a sump! Your tank must be a minimum of 18inches high, otherwise you won't be able to get the right depth for the plenum/dsb. Good luck.
  2. Both zoas have opened up nicely. I now have a zoa section on my live rocks! Now to save money for clams!...or go market and get a few green mussels first!!!
  3. Many thanks for the zoas....they've opened up great..!!!
  4. ...condensation...hmm... The only times I've seen condensation is when the chiller is set to very low...presumably about 20degrees. I've set my chiller to 27degrees and have never had condensation problems, even when the surrounding temperature is about 30-31 degrees. Did you measure your tank's temperature using a separate thermometer, or do you depend on the chiller's reading? Some chillers are not very accurate in their thermo switch setting.
  5. sounds like better places to release the eel is pulau ubin, kusu...ie. any island around singapore, but not singapore itself!
  6. ...unless your room temp is very much higher than your tank temp, you shouldn't be getting condensation on the outside of your tank. You very sure that you tank temp is 27-28 degrees?
  7. Thanks for the advise on placement of other corals out of reach of bubble!
  8. Tank was rescaped about 3 weeks ago, using old water, old sand, old live rocks. Changed from Eheim cannister filter to plenum/DSB in main tank. Do not have a sump as I travel a lot and I needed a very simplified tank setup. I'll stop adding livestock for now and will go home later to measure water parameters. Thanks for advise on bubble...I wasn't sure how stingy it'll get with fishes.
  9. Hi guys, I had a 1 week old yellow tang in my tank. Seemed to be doing fine as it was eating and swimming around, a little shy sometimes. I bought the bubble LPS from Hammy and put bubble into my tank at night, with only dim wall light on. Next morning, my yellow tang was dead! No blister spots on body...just dead . The tang wasn't skinny, no ich, no breathing problems, no signs of stress! Could it have been stung by the bubbles and died? Any advise before I buy a replacement yellow tang? Thanks!
  10. I bought needle type hydrometer. If I remember correctly, it's Coralife brand. Bought it because packaging said that the hydrometer is certified correct. Paid about 3 times of cheapo glass floating type, but still cheaper than having stressed/dead livestock!
  11. You'll need to install a light for the chaetos or other plants to grow. The lights gotta be switched on for most of the time. Some people just leave the lights on 24hours.
  12. Hi, PM'd you about: Maroon clown 10 Blennie 5 Boxer Shrimp 10
  13. Hi Hammy, Your bubbles opened like a charm this morning when I checked before I left for work. Sits beautifully in the middle of my tank. I'm really happy to have it in my tank! Thanks and Cheers!
  14. When I started marine FOWLR, I bought cheap $4-$6 floating glass hydrometer with built-in mercury thermometer. I used red sea salt and always made sure the glass hydrometer floated in the green zone. However, all shrimps, snails and other lifestock (some fishes survived!) will die very quickly when ever I put into my tank, even after drip acclimitization. I accidentally broke the glass hydrometer and borrowed my neighbour's Marine Environment hydrometer. The Marine Environment hydrometer showed SG level way off until cannot measure!!! Panic...changed 2 big pails of water immediately (3ft tank). Wait another week, change another 2 pails. Now using Red Sea hydrometer. SG level just above acceptable zone because I have plenum/DSB where SG of water still too high. Will probably have to change half to one pail of water for the next 2-3 weeks to ensure SG level stabilizes to acceptable. So...warning to all...glass hydrometer can really (^(^#$ your tank!!! Save $10, lost more than $100 livestock!
  15. Instead of using the eheim liberty, you might want to search for a hang-on filter that allows you to put whatever media you want into a basket. The hang-on filter should be designed so that water is forced through the media. Most hang-on filters, including the eheim liberty, requires a slide in filter media insert which doesn't allow you to add other types of media. I bought the following hang-on filter from C328 because it allowed me to run rowaphos in my tank without have to remove too much equipment. I don't have a sump. Look around and see if you can find something similar. Good luck! http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/bniagfilfilb.html
  16. This is an excellent air-driven skimmer. Good enough for a 2-2.5 foot tank. I still have mine and will not be selling it although I've upgraded to a Remora. Just make sure you buy the Coralife or Red Sea air wood.
  17. $20. I'll put it in a big zip lock bag...about 4 tubs full...depending on how much you squeeze into a tub! ) Pick up at ang mo kio ave 4. PM me your mobile and I'll contact you via SMS.
  18. Electrical shop, I think 4 feet by 2 feet.
  19. Clementi fish shop got sell..or electrical shops in sungei road...
  20. Scanning and printing the color chart won't be accurate because there'll be colour shifts. Hopefully you can get the color chart from someone who doesn't need it anymore.
  21. I've seen my damsels and maroon clown go after the bristle worm...it quickly became food for the damsel that won the eating match!
