  1. Tried it... no point you'll be wasting time and money..

Firstly the chip is not cheap esp when bought alone, secondly you need a power supply which can power a few amps... which is hard to find... next you need to interface the water and chip thermally, which IMO is the toughest part..

Also, you must thermally insulate the whole thing well, + prevent condenstation otherwise the chip would spoil...

A lot of problems lah... so unless u are SURE of what to do, don't try it...

  2. I tried this before it works perfectly BUT ONLY and ONLY if the container u have is rigid.

Otherwise, it would simply deform and deform spewing out water non-stop.... also, to DIY, the air-tightness is crucial...

In the end I gave up and when with my DIY tubby...

  3. anymore great ideas/design ???

    Uni ... NUS/NTU ... EEE/MPE/CSE? :snore:

    :off:

    NUS.. aki actually...

Would be great if someone could remake the electronics into purely solid state and make the box a lot smaller and neater.... maybe design the circuit then send it for etching or whatever they call it... to make it into a proper circuit board, rather than a mess of wires running around...

  4. Hi guys,

I've been battling green hair algae for some time now and I'm FINALLY winning the battle... however, some of my rocks have been encrusted by some other type of bushy algae or some sorts, it's redish in colour, thin branching like clumps much like a bush of some sorts...

Any idea what it is and how I can deal with it (if it is meant to be dealt with)?

Sorry no pics coz my cam is back in my hostel....

    Thanks a lot,

    Ervine Lin

  5. Hi guys,

I started my tank a looooong time ago, before I had enough knowledge to know that a steel stand would ultimately rust.... and 2 yrs down the road it has begun....

It's not really a stand, more of a table converted into a stand, the table was originally coated with 1 or 2 layers of paint and as of today, the most important welds are beginning to rust, more and more each week even though I coat them with WD40....

It's just a matter of time before it gives way and I want to do something about it before this happens....

My tank isn't big (1ft nano with 1.5ft sump) but it still weighs a ton...

What advice do you guys have on how I might be able to solve this problem?

Get a new stand? How, where, how much, how to move the existing tank?

Protect current stand? How, how long will it last?

    Please advise... thanks a lot!

    Ervine Lin

PS: Thinking of upgrading, esp since I might need a new stand altogether.. maybe a 2ft cube or something shrug...

  6. ervine ... thanks for the great design  ... made my life so much easier with the top up system .... now can really enjoy watching the tank ... ( added a CA reactor too ) .... full throttle ahead ;)

Sure thing.. it made my life a whole lot easier too!! (and my dad's coz he looks after my tank while I mug away in uni)

Of course I'm happy to see that people are "upgrading" my (well not really mine) design... the more ideas the better!!

  7. hm.. i've heard otherwise, that the hermits will just go about their normal lives if they cannot find a bigger shell... especially since the hermits from ML are prob dwarf hermits that don't grow much anyway...

Mine have been doing fine for couple of months now... never seen them attack a snail... YET

  8. Where do I find an old car?

BTW, anyway to make this whole ting smaller?

Old car donno... how to make it smaller? You mean the container? Too small a container no point coz it can't store enough water (usually mine lasts for 2 weeks straight)

If you are talking about the controller (i.e. the electronics) not likely either because all the items take up space

  9. oh ... this design is meant for 240V supply that turn on the PH .....

Hey that's my diagram... tot it was lost in the last forum migration.. haha...

Where did u get the windscreen wiper motor BTW? and how much?

  10. huh? just the big fans blowing on the pipes? I don't think that'll work significantly...

Assuming water temp is at room temp, thus air temp = water temp, thus you blow typhoon at your metal pipes also no use because there's no temperature gradient... net heat transfer = 0

Maybe it'll drop by 1 or 2 degrees but it's not worth the effort seriously... just aim that big huge fan at your water surface it'll cool even more efficiently
