If kalk is over dosed,
mAriNe_enthusiast replied to mAriNe_enthusiast's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I think could be my sera test kit. I cannot tell for sure what is the exact reading. The colour doesn't realli fit into any of the stated colour. 8.4 is an estimate that i made. Think i will revert back to dripping method. WHich means daily chore... -

I think i will just make do with T5. Are there any recommended brand or shd i go for DIY? I heard ATI is not bad but gonna wait for the shipment ? Are there other brand to consider? Thks again... -
If kalk is over dosed,

I didn't drip it... I poured directly into the tank @ a region of high water flow. The reason i did that was becos the concentration of the kalk was very low. ( I mix half teaspoon of kalk powder with ~10 litres of water ) Actualli, there're onli very small patches of coralline algae turing white, think i make a fuss over it. Sorrii... Anyway, i agree with one of the bro that temp can cause the coralline algae to die off... And i personally feel that fluctuateion of salinity may also cause the algae to die off. I did some parameter check, and found my pH to be 8.4 Is this okie? And thks to all those that replied -

Currently i have a fan blowing directly across the surface and keeping temp ~ 27 deg ( @ it's highest ) But i worry it may shoot up shd i use a MH. Are there any bros out there who are using MH but still able to maintain relatively low water temp low just by using fan? If that is feasible i will seriously consider MH. -

Thanks for the replies... Actualli i believe i did followed the instructions. I added half a teaspoon with 1 litre of water to prepare e kalk solution. Afterwhich, i add this kalk solution into the top up water...which i add daily into my tank to replenish the evaporated water. Did i made a mistake? The onli thing is i din use a testkit -
Hey guys, Currenly i'm using 2 PL 36 W plus 1 FL actnic for my 35 gal volume tank. I have the urge to do something about my lighting as i think it's not enuff for my hard corals...I oso wanna to keep more light demanding clams and perhaps anemones in my tank. So the first thing i wanna to do will be to do a research on what i shd upgrade to. Shd i upgrade to T5 or MH? I will very much love to upgrade to MH, the problem is i'm not using a chiller. I'm only using a fan to maintain my tank temp ~ 27 deg. Is it possible to use MH without chiller? ( anyone?? ) Either i consider investing in a chiller or i will settle for T5. Regarding T5, i am still considering whether to go for DIY kind or purchase offshelf. I have read good reviews on ATI T5 lighting but the last thing i noe was that mani bros out there are still waiting for their orders to be delievered? I think the shipments are taking quite a while to reach? Hmm... shd i join in the wait or look for something else? I welcome any suggestions/advices. Thanks in advance. Benson

Hey guys, Recently i added dissolved kalk( clear portion ) into my top up water. Have been using that to replenish the water evaporated by my fan. DOin that for abt 2 days onli. Today realised part of my coralline algae turning white. Just some small patches. Hmm...is that caused by overdosing of kalk? normally i add 250ml( kalk ) to 10 litres of top up water and i'll top up about 1 litre plus daily. My tank is ~ 35 gal volume. Overdose? benson

How do tubeworm shit? Never see b4 leh -
The combination of colour is not as impt as the intensity of the light. And do give ur tank good water circulation which do helps coralline algae to grow. Do not forget the necessary calcium additive...
