  1. Oops! Sorry AT, i credit the wrong person for this. Wei
  2. Just went dwn there today. Not bad, gd customer service at Hong Leong but things abit pricey. They do not have any #01 sand there, but can ask Henry to bring in. U will need pH, PO4, NH4, NO2 & NO3 test kit. CA, dkH test kit later when u start keeping corals. pH meter at ard $50-70. refractometer ard $250-500. Depend if it has automatic temp compensation. I would say there are places that do sell cheaper than hong leong at the east side(Petmart), but consider the trip dwn & etc, u might as well get from there. I will be going dwn again next wk to get pytoplankton, can meet up if u want. Wei
  3. Wow! how long you take to compile this list? U does sound like u are new to this hobby since you can come out with this list. I, myself also dunno some. Wei
  4. Hi junlover, catseye require more lights. the rest is the same as any other bubble coral. below is a pic of 1 catseye. Wei
  5. Bubble or cat's eye are just the common name of the coral. They are of the same species but different variants or morphs. agreed. Catseye is sold at a much higher price than normal, so knowing how to differ is gd so pple won't get cheated. hahaha. Wei
  6. Hi creetin, if part of yr leather then powdery, means that part is dead. U need to check yr water or does any coral sting it. soft corals produce large amount of chemical in nature to its surrounding to prevent any algae or LPS from growing on or near them. I believe yr one issit doing well. its definately not shedding mucous tunic. Wei
  7. Hi, Changing water is not just for removing excess nutrients. it is to replenish the nutrients used up in yr old tank water. It also prevent ionic imbalance if u are someone that dose many kind of chemicals into yr tank. Wei
  8. HI, very simple. a catseye has a white stripe over every single bubble of the coral. yrs & harlequin one dun have, so it is definately not a catseye. Wei
  9. hi lona, not really fully of worms. but you can see trails of the worms crawling below the sandbed. is seed my sand with LR & 10kg of #1 LS. I attach a pic of my low budget tank taken ard 1.5 mths back. total cost less than $300 but doesn't include cost of my 4 yr plus remora PS & MH. SAnd- 30kg of #0 less than $20 Rocks- 12kg. ard $110 Tank- free Sump- free 2400L circulating pump- $65 1000L PH- $20 saltwater- $8. pvc pipe, less than $5. overflow box- cheap cheap. Total ard $280 only min rocks. cannot find rocks that time. now alot of changes. no more actinic FL, using a venture 10K bulb. like the colour alot. Got another 7kg of rocks, so will be re aquascaping. added a hammer & anthelia. now got 4 fishes. 1 pair of sebae clown, 1 orange skunk clown & a regal angel. 1 sebae anemone. whenever i add some new stock, i will experience some bloom in algae , but after a few days, it will just disappear. so still stablising stage. WIll take new pix of it after i hook up all my equipments, redo my piping & beg my friend to lend me his digi cam again. wat you see now is more like a half effort job. example the piping. stay in in camp I also got an overflow box at the right side of tank. use dark color acrylic so algae won't grow on it. conclusion: go slow, lay a gd foundation. add things slowly & let yr sys adapt/cope before u add other thing. Save u tons of time & money fighting cyano & hair algae. cycle for 2mth plus before i add anything, my system now still need time to stablise, so won't be adding anything before CNY. Never believe in fast cycle & dump everything at one go! U are just dumping money into the sea! happy reefing! Wei
  10. Hi lona, go for it! i also started with a small 2.5ft tank. simple setup, low budget. Once you can handle small tank, big tank will be very easy to handle. i have a 3x1.5x1.5 now. 4" DSB. a diy overflow box. MH lights, skimmer. thats all. 6" sandbed too thick , i find no different from 4". if you using #0, a 2.5 to 3" can liao. most important is to seed the sandbed until very life with lots of worms crawling inside. then add things slowly & let the natural do its job. that simple! simple? also not really. Try and u will know. haha! Wei
  11. hi, you can try lps like hammer, or anthelia. My orange skunk is now 'hosting my anthelia, 1 of my sebae clown 'osting' my hammer & the other hosting a sebae anemone. Wei
  12. Looks like a bubble tip to me. Wei
  13. Hi, It depends on wat you want to achieve from this product. Fast cycle & start putting yr livestocks within a short period of time frame cos you can't wait any longer? Pple that first got into this hobby commit this mistake & paritially also becos the LFS recommended it. end up that got problem with the water parmeters & unwanted algae to deal with later. for marine/reef, dun use all these liquid and hope for a fast cycle cos its just not only getting the water parameters right. I personally have not used this stuff but it can just be like any other brand of liquid that offer a fast cycle but kind of useless. U cannot get a DSB filtration to work long term if you are only going to depend on the bacteria living in the SB or LR. Go for the best way of slowly cycling yr tank to 0 nh4, 0 no2 and min no3. Use LS & LR to seed yr sandbed & allow more diversity of life to grow & multiply. Take a longer route now will just save you a lot more time & trouble in the future. Wei
  14. hi ssathesh, issit an Aquatechnic tank? if yes howcome got centre bracing one??? Wei

    5000L+ pump

Hi Cedric, Laguna pump is a pond pump. Are you running one yrself. Is its safe to be used in saltwater. I dun want the impeller to rust. Wei
  16. Hi TTboy, i saw rainbow selling the Hanna phoshate test kit. titration type. didn't bother to ask after i saw they elling their live rock at $25 a kg! U can get Hach also. Very accurate also. Intial investment is ard $120 for 1 type of testkit cos it comes with the titration kit. Subsequently, you just need to pay ard $10 - 20 for refilling the reagent. Wonder if singapore got La Motte anot? Wei

    5000L+ pump

It shape like a pond pump to me. Can it be use externally. since it got inlet & outlet at 1" and 1.25" respectively. Which farm sell them? how much? Wei
  19. Hi, flame angel need gd water quality. It will easily fall sick & prone to white spots if water quality degrade. Flamehawk is a very interesting fish to have. Fun to see also. Wei
  20. Hi, I have notice that alot of reefers here place their clam on their sandbed. It is preferred not to cos you are risking the clam from being attack by worms from its base. It is always good to chose a clam that is still attached to its base rock. Wei
  21. Hi AT, is your friend called Wilson? If its him, just check if he get his distributorship from germany direct or not. If not, we might be going through 2 middleman, end up his stuff will not be any cheaper than reefers here to order schuran equipments from Germany. Maybe you can post his quote/pm us so that we can compare prices. Wei
  22. cos theres a lot of newbies/pple who dun know, find it beautiful & buy it. So, there is a demand. Sometime, the exporter side just dump them in to match the kg of livestock ordered. So, no choice, the lfs had to sell them or incur losses. Wei
  23. Hi kais, remove the sea apple. I got a friend whose sea apple remain in his tank for 2 yr plus without problem. Then 1 day, the sea apple release its eggs into the water. The fishes ate it & died within hours. Pollute the tank water, sea apple too stress, release toxin & bloom! Whole tank wipe out! Wei
  24. Personally, I would prefer a mix of softies, LPS & SPS. This is something a lot more challenging than just solely sps. Keeping sps is no longer something difficult if you can fulfil its requirement of high ca, light, strong current. Wei
