Hi, Getting a T5 or MH is not a must for clams. Reefers had much success keeping them under PL before T5HO even came out. PL has always been the sub for MH. Its just how many tubes u need to use to be sufficient for the clams. But now, T5HO offer more edge against PL, so pple are slowly switching. 1 of the disadvantage of using PL is the heat. Try to locate the ballast separate from the tube will help alot with the heat problem. As yr tank is only a 2ft & 16" deep, u can try to squeeze in 4 tubes of 36W/55W PL. It should be enough for the clams. Besides, just use the orsam PL for white & blue. They offer much higher intensity & last more than 9mths. Not like other brand that is cheap but last for less than 3 mths. Next, u should check yr water parameters. Is yr filtration able to provide the ideal water parameters for the clams? I can tell u they are very senstive to the water quality. I used to use clams, shrimps & tunicates as an water indicator cos they are very senstive creatures.Temp is best kept at ard 26-28. Use a fan if u are tight on budget, try to keep the temp no more than 28. Min fluc of temp is equally impt. Do more research on clams. They are beautiful, but make sure u got the appropriate lighting & filtration(water condition & temp) before u get them. I suggest u can just long bang yr friend for sometime before u setup a suitable tank for them. Cheers! Wei

its consider cheap to get a maroon at $8. especially so if its a yellow strip one. but the best is last time, when the boss happy...u can just take wat ever u want for free or all for $50. Old tamp rd. not sure if he still do that now. haha. if u need someone to ID the fish for u, try to know some pple here & join them when they visit LFS. Wei

What's the big deal about Howard Dean's scream?
Wei replied to Achilles Tang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Ours no need to shout. They got Internal Security Act, deframing law suit, etc. Wonder wat other ideas they can come out. Interesting to know. -
Hi cjack, reborn is more like a wholesale market. They sell their stuff cheaper than outside. U go there, pick a coral & pay. They won't bother to entertain you one. Even if they offer u advise, well..... Wei

For most pipefishes, the males cannot tolerate each other. Its not just the jann's, same for blue strip, multi banded. They will fight until theres only 1 male left. Different species do not disturb each other. Cheers! Wei

hI kschew1498, whats the temp u keep for yr tank. High temp or wide swing in temp can cos LPS/SPS to slowly die. I dun think 50 for nitrate can cos such effect. It might be yr water/ filtration is unstable. What do u dose yr tank. Incorrect usage of additives & chemicals can be a disaster. Do provide more details. Tank inhabitants, placement of brain, etc. Besides, what testkit u using? Wei

Mangrove is a nice addition to reef/seahorse tank. It takes up nitrate but slow. U dun need MH to grow them well. T5 will do. WaterC...le sell them. All are doing very well under T5. Matt06 is right that we can easily get mangroves. But how many would actually go dwn the muddy site to collect. Wei

Although I must said Reborn fishes are not in really good shape, they are still worth considering. The most important is yr system must be stable & gd. The pipes will thank u for getting them out of the place!!
