Dear Achilles, i started my tank about 3 weeks ago with live rocks (mainly the branches type). most of the brown and redish brown stuff on the rocks "dropped off" and the rocks are beginning to look bleached. are the live rocks dying? what do i need to do? at this point, there are only sands and rocks in the tank. plse advise.

Bwilly, what are the dimensions of your skimmer and the pump. is it a hang on kind? I trying to look for one that will fit into the space of L18cm x D28cmx H50cm. Where did you buy yours from?

it is a 3 ft tank. after putting in the rocks and sand, needed to put in about 215 litres of water. my is a fish and live rock tank. currently the fishes in the tank are as follows: 1 brown tang 1 yellow tang 1 clown tang 3 blue damsels 1 tomato clown 1 pearl angel 1 flame angel 1 lemon peel angel I do a 10% change of water every 3 months. do not intend to add any more fishes unless anyone of them dies on me. given the above, so i still need a protein skimmer?

I have my tank for about 6 months. If my tank's ammonia and nitrite level have been zero, ph is abt 8.1 and salinity is about 1.0225, do i still need a protein skimmer? Appreciate your advice.
