  1. Quite a few people think fishes naturally catch ich when they are stressed, especially for some kinds of fishes such as tangs. My understanding and personal experience leads me to conclude otherwise. Ich is usually introduced into a tank from an external infected source, such as fishes or live rocks. They are parasites that live under the skin of fishes and reproduce quickly. Try reading up... too much info to post here but the point is that once they appear in your tank, they are going to be your worst nightmare. No amount of garlic is going to help your fishes fend off their relentless attacks - it may help reduce the symptoms but it sure doesn't solve the root of the problem which is that they exist in your tank. The only true long-term solution and the best one for your fishes' health and your own sanity is to totally rid your aquarium of ich once and for all, and to prevent any infected sources being introduced again. What I did to finally have an ich-free tank: 1. Net out all the fishes into a separate quarantine tank. 2. Leave the main tank fishless for 3 months. The ich eventually dies without any fishes to host on. Corals and inverts are ok. 3. Do whatever you need to cure the infected fishes in quarantine, either with medication or hypo-salinity. I tried hypo-salinity but that killed 90% of my fishes due to my lack of experience maintaining the water quality in a hypo-salinity state. Skimmers don't work in hypo-salinity. 4. After 3 months, re-introduce fishes into the main tank, but only when you are sure they are not infected, usually by observing them for a couple of weeks in quarantine.
  2. You can try iwarna. Got my replacements for 6hf and 20hf there not too long ago. Auntie was nice enough to allow removing the impeller from new retail units. Otherwise, the distributor for rio pumps is a farm at LCK, can't remember exactly the name...
  3. I have quite a bit to be harvested. Collect at or near Tanah Merah MRT. $5 per tub. Let me know if you are interested so I can prepare the quantity you need. Thx.
  4. The screen size is pretty big - 620mm x 500mm, and it was sandpapered before use. As for the ideal light intensity, unfortunately my sump can't take too much heat due to its poor ventilation.
  5. Hi all, My own little algae scrubber project inspired by Santa Monica's pioneering work. Specs as follows: - lit by 4 waterproof led strips (3xred, 1xblue) each consuming approximately 4 watts. - mesh dimensions: 620mm x 500mm (WxH). - easily detachable for maintenance. - secondary outlet for water redirection during washing or maintenance. - constructed entirely with off-the-shelf parts, e.g. pvc pipes, joints and valves, wire mesh, cable ties, s-hooks, flexible wire conduits, led strips(bought online). Most of these parts with the exception of the leds can be purchased at your nearest neighbourhood hardware store. The leds can be purchased from Sim Lim Tower if you don't mind paying a little more for them. Total cost less than S$100 with bulk attributed to led strips. - entire overflow(~3000 l/hr) from display tank(3'x2'x2') passes gravitationally through this scrubber. - leds are on 16 hours a day. Not much algae as yet since this is only day 1. Not sure how well it will work but it sure looks pretty! Haha Possible issues to be considered: - clogging at the slit by detritus and algae. But since regular maintenance (such as scraping the algae buildup and flushing the conduit) will be done, shouldn't be much of an issue. - leds are not intense enough or are of ineffective spectrums. All comments are welcome.
  6. Just discovered they are called vermetid snails.
  7. I've got this problem too, but a much bigger bigger one with hundreds of them all over my tank, even on my wavemaker. What are they called by the way?
  8. If I recall correctly, I saw some at the LFS opposite Ah Beng LFS.
  9. Measures flow rate from 50gph - 250gph. Selling at S$18 unused. Collection at Tanah Merah. Offer price of S$15 if bought together with UV sterilizer - http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=67973&hl=
  10. I have one set available if you are interested. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=67973&hl=
  11. Hi all, I just signed up for the Singnet broadband bundle that comes with a Thinkpad X61 HSDPA-enabled notebook. Since I already have another notebook, I'm looking to auction this off. Hopefully some bro here contemplating a new ultraportable notebook can bring home this extremely compact workhorse on the cheap. I am expecting to collect it from Singtel in early April. The eventual buyer can come along to collect it from Singtel first-hand (and personally inspect it). Opening bid is S$2000, first person to bid S$2280 wins it. Here are the specs for the base model: *Image for illustration purposes only. Actual unit does not come with integrated fingerprint reader. Intel® Centrino® Duo Processor Technology Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2Ghz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800FSB) Windows Vista® Home Basic 12.1" XGA TFT display (308mm) XGA (1024x768) TFT color, 150 nits, 4:3 aspect ratio, 300:1 contrast ratio, anti-glare 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 80GB SATA HDD (5400rpm) Graphics Media Accelerator x3100 4 cell enhanced capacity battery Integrated 56K modem/Gigabit Ethernet LAN / Integrated Intel® 802.11a/b/g WLAN No Bluetooth and No Fingerprint reader Thinklight - Illuminates the keyboard to improve visibility in low-light conditions 1xSecure Digital Card Slot, 1 x One Type I or one Type II, CardBus Plus, 1xIEEE 1394 FireWire 400 (4-pin connector; 1394a-2000 standard), 3xUSB 2.0 Wireless WAN HSDPA 3 years Next Business Day Onsite warranty Comes with 6-month Insurance against Accidental Damage and Theft! Please note that this unit does not come with an optical drive. If you need one, you can purchase an external DVD burner accessory from Lenovo. Also note that this is an exclusive model for the Singtel bundle that comes with a built-in 3.5G HSDPA modem unlike local retail models that require a separately-purchased USB or PCMCIA HSDPA modem. To use the built-in modem, just sign up for a 3.5G mobile broadband deal from any telco and slot the telco-provided data SIM card into the modem. For an additional S$299(to be paid by buyer upon collection at Singtel agent's office), Lenovo will allow you to upgrade the unit to the following, which is a pretty good deal IMHO: 2 x 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 160GB SATA HDD (5400rpm) 8 Cell High Capacity battery Bluetooth

  13. Hi all, kindly help to id these snails in my tank. Are they good guys or bad guys?
  14. Anyone has spare or knows where to get a replacement? Thx!
  15. Anyone has ATI Bubble Master 200 skimmer for sale? I'm looking to upgrade from my current Reef Octopus NW-150. Thx.
  16. Thanks Piero. Do you mean the 1.2-1.4k includes the main and sump tanks without the cabinet right? Is the 6mm glass sufficient for the sump tank? Unfortunately, my pre-built cabinet does not have enough space for a chiller so we opted without and was advised that a chiller isn't that necessary if we don't have fancy corals. What pump and skimmer (around the same price range) would you recommend as better replacements for the Rio and Reef Octopus? I was quoted 3.1k for this. Think that is reasonable? Another place (at IMM) quoted me 3.3k without skimmer and wavemaker...
