  1. it wun survive as long even if one head is dead. they are not individual polyps but survive as a whole. tried many times and previously another reefer sell it to me, it slowly died off. try doing a search on gonoipora and u will read many reports regarding that.
  2. Upz for this dedicated and care-loving reefer. "mother of corals" reefer.haha. loves and nurture his corals more than anything.haha. thanks for the nice corals. cheers.
  3. very very very risky is what i can say from the picture. i have try using something similar to this before. and your water is only passing thru from the top.even if it's entering at a low rate, for the water to flow all the water to the bottom of the DSB will take a long time and to have it so deep will take a great deal of time. or the water exchange will be very slow but it might get too slow in a long run. and this can cause formation of toxic gas. i have tried something like this similar before in the past and the result is formation of toxic gas and my dsb becomes black at those portion. if u really wanna use this method, make the output at the bottom. u can try. the theory is same as denitrator. haha..the sugar method.nv try before. think it could be because u are promoting too much anaerobic bacteria growth could be becos that these anaerobic bacteria in ur liverocks or tank get too much carbo. and starts to multiple greatly. overpopulation of them causing a slide in the ecosystem. and when they use up the carbo, they will start dying. and may caused a spike in no2 and ammonia. just what i tot theoretically. Cheers.
  4. seaweed ? u mean macroalgae ? alot of reefers do that in a refugium or sump. it works if u provide them light 24/7 and maybe some iron, as some online reports claims it helps to lower chances for it to go sexual. if it does, u will have a cloudy tank. Vodka provides carbohydrate for the bacteria. did watch some video on fermenting and they provide sugar for these bacteria so i am using sugar instead of vodka which work as well. maybe u can give it a try when ur vodka runs out, or some other soluble carbon source. Supermarket may have some options if u do a bit of research on carbon sources. maybe u can try barley as it provide a great deal of carbo. refer to http://www.indiadiets.com/foods/food_nutri...drate_foods.htm deniballs...shouldn't be a problem just need to adjust the flow so that wun have the rotten egg's smell.
  5. red slime :S. check your water parameters. and maybe u can source online for cure. and try to increase flow there. Cheers.
  6. hahaha...shock right ? not fabricating anything but how they maintain their livestock is not a problem becos they sell by batch. one batch sell off then empty, so the livestocks dun stay there for long and only that week. and those unsold, most likely will died off. In fact it's not just one but quite a few in singapore are like that. and sometimes u can see the poor fishes suffering for the week. and the worst is that if there is disease in the water, the fishes all will in turn get them but not all fishes will display the symptoms in short term. Used to buy fishes from those places, and in the end, all fishes bought there died but other fishes from other places doesn't. So now i rather pay more or twice for a healthy fish. If u wanna know more abt these shops, u can pm me.
  7. hahaha...do know that tank crash due to poisoning is common and pH too low is not much reported, guess it could be becos that the effect is not as adverse and immediate to the livestocks as the poisoning but rather it causes stress to livestock and death to more sensitive fishes and corals. There are many who are out there not knowing SRC and some who might frequent but not post. I have met ppl who have many weird incidents and even one who have pH at 7 but still keeping some fishes(hardy ones) and yet not knowing the importance of pH. Know another person who didn't change water at all not becos he doesn't want to but was told by some LFS that u dun have to change water. There are even more weird accidents and some are not just coming from reefers but some LFS also. many times u will be surprised to know that some rural LFS may not even bother abt all these water parameters. Not gonna mention any names but by words of mouth, you will know there are a few still going on today. Cheers. PS: typo i wun deny that whatever mention above is true(false).
  8. and i only speak of the truth so it's up to u to decide on ur own, i have no reason to fabricate tales at all. and not everyone will post their tank crash online. and there are many who are more experienced but not even post once in here.even myself only post after many years of reefing. pH is not nothing becos here we are telling ppl who are not into the same thing as you. you may experienced nothing but u do admit it produce a low pH. i merely mention pH should be monitor. and how to monitor depends on the person to decide. hahaha... ammonia and nitrite is nothing to someone whose tank is mature. but it is more than that for a new reefer. so i will nv ever say pH is nothing becos it does have an effect esp. for ppl who are totally new to sulphur denitrator. giving answer means responsibility, i dun wanna say pH is nothing then the next day his pH drop like mad just becos of "pH is nothing" and compromise on this aspect. and start cursing the one who gives advice, believe it's rather common in forums. here we are helping ppl by providing more details and choices and not showing how experience we are by giving them definite answers. it's up to anyone who is reading to decide whether it is nothing or not. i wun deny that whatever mention above is false, the flow is slow but Law did recommend monitor as i do. so do monitor. Cheers.
  9. they are all products from seachem. focus is a medicated binder which actually allows the medication to bind to ur food. metronisazole is another medicine for ich.
  10. pH is nothing ? i feel that it is just a personal opinion. for more guide, try http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...rator&st=40 will be better to use coralchips to buffer becos i feel that pH is not nothing as have heard some accidents from other reefers regarding this. better be safe than sorry. just my 2cents.anyone trying should read up more. cheers.
  11. how old is ur tank ? and ur blue tang is it a new addition ? try paraguard or Metronidazole from seachem. cos last time when i have this problem, email them and that's what they recommend. if can catch it, take it out for a dip using paraguard or Metronidazole. if cannot catch it, the recommendation they give was to use FOCUS and Metronidazole in ur fishfood to feed it. whether it's reef-safe to do that, i cannot concur but i does put in a small quantity of paraguard and garlicjuice to feed. if new addition, next time i recommend u to dip them in paraguard before adding into tank. just my 2cent cos at first i lost a lot of fishes due to ich and they are be introduced in by foreign watersources or organisms(including fishes). Cheers.
  12. HI, if ur nitrate is above 20, i suggest u do a water change before carrying out any of these experiments or equipment. if u will to ask anyone more experienced in this, u will get the same answer, which is water change. these method are to help u in maintaining the NO3 level not totally lowering it. even if lowering it down to 50, to reach 80ppm, means that are many impurities and other substances. and these can be removed too. wat i suggest is u do a water change slowly and stop or minimize feeding for now until u reach 20ppm or less. becos if u look at it in this way, daily breakdown of food and waste contribute to nitrate and plus ur current level. it will currently well above 100ppm becos ur liverocks play a part in lower nitrate too. so even if u employ any of these methods, it will be taxing to deal with both the daily output and the accumulative level together. water changes will lower ur accumulative level and allow ur denitrator or DSB to work in control the daily output. I feed heavily with frozen and pellet. and with a diy canister denitrator, my level stay at 5to10. plus with a dsb at the last compartment of my sump. i dun really ultilise heavy skimming but just little. but heavy skimming currently will do u well. once a week will feed my denitrator with sugar sugar...cos my canister have a small hole that can be open at the top. otherwise u will need to diy ur own sugar input. and for sulphur denitrator, it will affect ur pH so dun play with it without monitor. as for dsb, it works the same as denitrator, in fact using the same theory. but there is one big disadvantage which is circulation. depends on how u circulate it, too low of circulation can cause formation of some toxic gases. that's wat i experience before and alot of fishes died because of that. but if circulation is too strong, it will not work also cos too much oxygen kill all the anaerobic bacteria. cheers. i have heard many good review of sulphur denitrator but u need to monitor the pH. and right now i am trying mangrove to remove the nitrator totally to zero, hope it will works. if they grow successfully, will get another 30 to grow in my sump.
  13. hahaha...forget to add in this part. turn of ur wavemaker during feeding. this applies to all corals...be it sun corals, or prata or even mushie.. after they devour all ur food, then turn it back on.
  14. evaporation is the problem in this, and that why ppl prefer chiller becos it doesn't have this problem or minimal.
  15. evaporation is the problem in this, and that why ppl prefer chiller becos it doesn't have this problem or minimal.
  16. i manually put it to their mouth becos i dun wan to dirty the tank by flooding. i just use the same dry pellet which i feed my fishes to feed the corals. it can be ocean nurtri or life spectrum. these two brands more reliable. and i put directly to prate and cyna's mouth then they will lump the pellets together and eat. if u use shrimp u can must beware if u have bigger fishes, just in case they drag the whole piece away. i use pellets becos if the shrimp or fish snap the food, they will peck each individual pellet so no need to worry abt food being taken away as there will always be leftover. maybe u can try brineshrimp or mysis shrimp cube too, i believe a few reefers do that. if the cube is too big, cut into half then use a tong to place it to their mouth. it's up to individual's preference, just keep trying and use the method u most preferred.no right or wrong. my 2cents. Cheers.
  17. i feed all my corals with pellets becos prawn meat very easily taken by shrimps. u can try that. cheers.
  18. great. so we have three ppl here altogether. think should get 50kg in total.then share among three of us. haha.so around 15kg per person. now who's going to drive there ? rocky u know the place, maybe u drive there to buy, then we both go to ur place to pack into 2kg packs ? then there will be 25packs. each of us take 8 pack and the one who drive there takes 9 pack. everyone pay $10 for 16kg ? i dun mind paying $2more for the petrol fee. pm me. cheers. we can discuss this together.
  19. great. really thank you so much for the information. wonder if u did manage to get ur hands on some calcium chloride too ? u have enough to sell some to me ? hahaha. any bro willing to share the cost in getting a 25kg sack together ? Cheers.
  20. yes, some of them are. zoanith is a big family group. palythoa is in the family. and one of the most toxic is Palythoa caribaeorum. read these two thread in RC and the second one is abt a dog which died after eating it :vomit: : http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=158730 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=158663 just wear a glove for fragging as a safety precaution. anyway most reported case are from the palythoa family. most zoas contains a relatively small amount of toxic but dun play a fool with palythoa. as long as u wear a glove and u dun eat it, u'll be safe. that includes singing when u are fragging. open goallie. haha. my 2cents. Cheers. if u worry that it's toxic, pass them to me, i suffer in ur place.
  21. great. wat is the minimal purchase from the manufacturer ? what is the name of the place ? that place should be big with many many factory. btw, i just walk in shout out "magnesium chloride" ? any bro interested ? i dun have transport, maybe we can share the purchase. pm me and we can discuss. thanks alot for the guide. this is getting more and more interesting..
  22. hahah...bro, care to share where u get ur mag. chloride and epsom ? pm me the address. thanks. maybe if can have a short description on the steps for mixing will be beneficial for everyone. will like to try it out. Cheers.
