  1. I'm adding the reef builder as per instructions, mixing in fresh water 1/2 tea spoon and pouring the mixture in. I'm using it twice a week is the calcium level also the hardness level? Err...I dont have the test kit for pH yet i have 6 1" fishes in the tank Dont have hard corals just some soft ones that look like little flowers
  2. I'm using reef bulider to try and push my water hardness up from 6. I am following the instructions / dosage that's displayed on the bottle but it's been 2 weeks and still the reading is 6. Is there something wrong? Using a 2ft tank with overhead filter.
  3. feeding them with chopped prawns and fish food sold in a tin
  4. http://saltaquarium.about.com/sitesearch.h...ode=3042&type=1 link taken from a previous post by someone.
  5. I have a file fish in the tank. It's been there for 2 months no problems at all. Was eating fine. Just a few days ago, I discovered it "lost weight" was becoming very very thin and I could actually see the skin pressed against the bone of the fish. This morning, it passed on to fish heaven. Just last week a goby also had this problem and died off. What's wrong? is it some disease? Both were eating fine and swimming happily in the tank.
  6. Agree with you oshkosh. I started off with a 24'', 18", 18". Was really a pain bringing water back from the beach - putting sea water into 1.5ltr pet bottles, carrying a bunch of them back to the car, taking the lift up to my HDB flat, pouring the water in a pail, wait for the dirt to settle, inspect the water for odd objects, then finally pouring it in the tank, Next week, same drill. Buying salt saves a lot of time and effort.
  7. HI, by changing to live rocks and finding it better, what do you mean? is it that the nitrate rates are lower?

  9. I've been reading the forum for a few days now. Seems that there are a lot of things to look out for in this hobby. I guess I have been lucky before I discovered this forum because my father taught me a few things about keeping marine fishes Still if it werent for the old hands in this forum, a lot of livestock will be dead and a lot of money wasted. This message is a tribute to all the people who have came forward and helped us newbies in anyway, be it advice or just opinions. I personally think you guys have went out of your way to do the things you have done. A million thanks. just a short note to would be beginners, take your time, one thing i have learnt is, never rush. It's a living thing we're dealing with and it's our responsiblity to take care of it.
  10. When I first started keeping Marine fish, I get water from the sea. But it looks green to me (like a tint). If i add the price of water and Marine salt vs the effort and time to collect water from the sea, I rather mix at home. Save the trouble. Yeah and sea water has a funny smell.
  11. Thanks for the advice chaps! Will start looking into my water condition. Clear water dont mean good water conditions right?
  12. I've checked the hardness and it's about 8. That's no good eh? I heard it should be like 10 to 15? Am i wrong? Besides hardness, what else should I be looking out for?
