Ingwe
nope the tank is not level. the room itself is not level.. why do you ask? lol anyway to anyone who is wondering, I've moved the tank to the right and now the light coverage for the left side of the tank is much better. dmck
silicon not needed but will ensure a longer life of the soldering. 1ft above tank will reduce any splashes but there may be splashes when u clean the tank or catch fish.
Ingwe
need help from LED gurus! my blue string just went out. I turned all the lights off and turned it on again. The white would light up while the blue would (dimly) flash on and off fading in intensity until it goes out. Whats wrong?
SRC Member oceanviper Posted January 14, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted January 14, 2012 You may check on the driver.... It looks like the supply too high...the lED is going into protection mode... SRC Member oceanviper Posted January 14, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted January 14, 2012 The LEDs are fine... Is just that the voltage output from the driver is too high. Can you measure the vout? Are there any LEDs which seems brightness not similar or any shorted wire? Ingwe
nope.. don't have a voltometer (or whatever it is called) If I get one what should I test for? I'm quite lost. The LEDs are similar in brightness (when they are blinking) and the wires look ok, i.e. no stray strands.
SRC Member oceanviper Posted January 14, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted January 14, 2012 The voltage measure should be the same as the stated on the driver... If the voltage is not, probably there is a short or the current is to high... Measuring current is not so straight forward... Are they connected to the same driver? How many driver you have..? You may tried to swap the driver and see how it goes... Ingwe
Nope they're controlled with 2 separate drivers. I've got 2 drivers.. one for white one for blue. Measure directly using the 2 wires leading out from the driver? Ok I'll do that tomorrow (some soldering involved). thanks so much for your help
SRC Member oceanviper Posted January 14, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted January 14, 2012 Try to swap the driver for testing. If both driver has the same issue, then mostly likely is the LEDs issue... If the driver swap to the white string LEDs also have same issue, then is the driver issue. Ingwe
I'm not sure about the drivers, but for 3 watt LEDS there is a store in the basement. 1 watt LEDs cost $5 each (no blue). I didn't ask for the price of the 3 watt LEDs after that.. didn't see blue too. I saw 4 watt LEDs at ikea for around 15 but they come at 2700 kelvins cheers

Ingwe
emailed Ray, he's replacing the dud driver Do consider buying the components separately though, the shipping costs quite a bit. It might be worth a shot sourcing for a heatsink (heavy) and maybe the driver locally. From what I read on another reefing forum and from my personal experience, Ray is responsive and it might pay off to do some math first. cheers,
lauterbrunnen
hi bros, do you guys think the LED driver needs to be mounted on the heatsink? Right now I put the drivers inside the sump cabinet because I am scared the thing falls into the tank . It is quite warm when touched. Btw, how you guys mount the driver on the heatsink properly? lauterbrunnen
hi bros, i highly recommend to put a fan on the drivers! what i did is put the drivers on the heat sink secured by zip ties then rest the fan on top of the driver. led and driver both running so much cooler now.
