barista7105
1.018-1.020 would be reasonable. Below 1.015 for long term, to my experience especially for angel fishes will loose its colour. It happened to me when I treat them with hypo around 1.010-1.015 for about 3 weeks, when I gradually brought back the salinity to 1.018 the colour pop up back. acidjc
I will go slighty lower btw 1.020, my understanding is lower will help to prevent ick Sent from my D2533 using Tapatalk Quote Current Tank(s) : 2 x 1 x 1 mixed reef tank What in my mind now (future tanks) 4 x 2.5 x 1.5 low profile coral tank 3 x 2.5 x 1.5 low profile reef tank Decommissioned Tanks : 2 ft seahorse tank back in the 1990s' 2.5 ft cube mixed reef tank in 2007 to 2008 JBJ 28g Tank . SRC Member Martin Foo Posted August 12, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted August 12, 2015 Oic but I thought ick would only be killed at 1.009 - 1.010?
SRC Member marineph Posted August 12, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted August 12, 2015 To rid of ick, need to go hypo level 1.010 or below. However, this is for treatment only and not good for long term. Ick can still come back beyond the hypo level. Some use copper to prevent ick. But, copper is harmful and should be administered with care and control at a slightly lower salinity for best effect. SRC Member Martin Foo Posted August 12, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted August 12, 2015 So u mean it's not advisable for salinity to go too low?what is the recommended range for FOWLR tank?
SRC Member kenyee Posted August 12, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Too low is how low? Its marine fishes we r keeping so cant b keeping them in freshwater (sg near to 1) right..haha..its a joke so pls dun feel offended The said salinity is 1.025 for seawater..for FOWLR, I have try 1.015 with no ill effect for 10months & currently keeping sg @ 1.017 (monitoring)..most would recommend 1.018-1.022 for FOWLR..Do note that all tanks & livestocks are different so good luck Edited August 12, 2015 by kenyee Quote @ 291213 Updated video: Kenyee FOWLR http://m.youtube.com/my_videos

SRC Member tuajia Posted October 19, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted October 19, 2015 Usually 1.020 is recommended to avoid parasites and other undesirable invertebrates that love higher salinity Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
SRC Member Ooozone Posted January 8, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted January 8, 2016 What is the min salinity level to keep shrimps or other Clean Up Crews etc?
Guest
Strongly Recommended 1.025-26 and acclimate it before adding in
SRC Member tuajia Posted January 8, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted January 8, 2016 Invertebrates like higher salinity. So if you want can just keep around 1.025 - 1.026 like Willy suggested. I keep mine 1.024 only because I like more buffer in case of too much evaporation if my ATO fails. I've seen neglected tanks reach 1.030 with no livestock issue as well. But probably not a good idea lol Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
vidios
Yup had mine at 1.03 once the fishes and shrimp ate still ok. 8P
