Diatoms outbreak

Recommended Posts

Diatoms are largely due to silicates which comes from dead or dying sponges and crap on your life rock thats decaying. Tap water and the quality of substrate you are using causes release of silica as well. Water changes and siphoning would help...but i would just wait it out and let them starve themselves.

IME it doesnt affect livestock in there because ive made the mistake of assuming the cycle was over when the surprise algae assaults happened one after another. When i see green algae i usually toss in some snails and CUC. Hair algae was plaguing me for awhile and then all was great till cyano came along (its getting better though T_T)
