Noisy in the sump

I'm using the eheim compact 3000 in the sump for my new 2ft tank for return. Very powerful for a 2ft tank. I have to adjust to the lowest flow output. Now I have a issue, the incoming water from the overflow straight to the sump first compartment is too great that cause alot of noise and water splashing. I have to solve this before i can start my cycle. Anyone can help on this?

Nothing in there, only water. The filter floss is in the 2nd compartment.I hv tried to cut down the pipe to let it submerge into the water less than a inch and also place the floss under the pipe still no use.

I am having a 2ft with compact3000 too. Also adjusted to the lowest but there isn't much noise.

My pipe is quite long down into filter sock and there's wool after that. Maybe the wool helps?
