Changing of tank sand

Recommended Posts

Hey I have a question on sand. My tank is fully running with fish and corals. But I'm currently using large grain sand which is like "gravel". But I would like to change it to the finer sand like those at the beach.

So my question is, if I were to change my substrate, will my tank water quality change drastically and will I have to cycle the water again??

Yes I have LR and bb media. So should I buy normal sand or live sand. Cos doesn't live sand have bacteria to help start up tanks. So it's OK to put live sand?

For established tank live sand or normal sand does not diff much. Personally i would buy normal but wash them with tap water till running water is clear. Then soak in WC tank water for a day then can change liao.

Keything here is that u would want to distrub ur current bb eco too much at one go.
