SRC Member PaulPaul01 Posted August 30, 2018 SRC Member Share Posted August 30, 2018 I bought a second hand skimmer from a nice member in SRC, and I haven't used it much since, other than to check if it works. It always overflowed when I used it, but I figured I'd resolve it once I finally turn it on for my new tank. It still overflows very badly, this was the first minute or two it was on in my sump. Pls do watch the video, and pls advice as to how to make it skim properly. Thanks a lot:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

SRC Member soggycookies Posted August 31, 2018 SRC Member Share Posted August 31, 2018 There should be a cap above the thick white tube like@Solo77 mentioned. It’s the valve adjuster to alter the water level in the skimmer. Incorrect water height is probably what is causing your skimmer to overflow all the time, IME using BM skimmers having it on a low setting(between 0 & 1) is what will set the water height in the skimmer lower. Also you might want to tweak the air intake but from your video it looks as though some parts of the skimmer are missing(air intake adjustment cap)Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

I turned the adjustment pipe and it worked out very well, had some really good skimmed material in the collection cup after some hours. Regarding the missing parts, would the skimmer still function properly in the long term? Thank you:)Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

Either way it should be fine as long as it isn’t overflowing and since you’re getting skimmate in the collection cup all should be fine. If you’re afraid it might overflow again just monitor the water level in the skimmer neck/column and adjust the white tube accordinglySent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
