my tank ever hit 50 ppm or more and fishes and corals are still doing fine.

I think it's nitrates, if nitrite hit 50ppm it will be all gone!

yup...i thk so too.... :rolleyes: 50ppm range is probably for nitrates :D as to nitirite safety level...i tot it should be zero? :shock:

Dino...how old is your tank?...if your tank is matured and properly gone thru the nitrogen cycle...how come there is still traces of nitrite???? :unsure:

Maybe it's just the testkit.

mg/L (1 L = 1,000,000 mg) = ppm (parts per million)

I won't suggest that you even bother getting a new test kit for a mature tank. Even if a nitrite spike happens it will resolve itself in less than a day. Looking at the colours, I find it hard to differentiate between the yellows at the low range. Don't need to worry too much. Trust nature to take its course.
