SRC Member magern2 Posted May 6, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted May 6, 2004 Is it ok to use a large plastic bucket, like the ones sold in sundry shops, for a sump? Has any one tried before? My worry is whether the salt water will leech the colours from the bucket.
SRC Member ervine Posted May 6, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted May 6, 2004 Get those translucent ones loh... but then very difficult to segment the plastic sump because the sides are sloping...
SRC Member magern2 Posted May 7, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 7, 2004 Actually, I just want to increase the total volume by increasing the so-called "reserve volume." A ten gallon doesn's give much room to play with. I want to get an anemone and some more fish. Want to keep tank size itself minimum while having it connected to a large reserve volume which is highly mobile, and can be shifted out at a moment's notice. Gouldian
According to what I have read in one of the FAMA mag, it is possible provided you use food grade plastics. One of my friend tried it on Toyogo tub, but he paid higher for those used for food preparations. The cheaper ones we see often are not meant for food preparation thus did not try. SRC Member NormanH Posted May 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted May 7, 2004 I'm using plastic bucket to store my pre-mix salt water, sometime up to 2 weeks. No problem ...
