DSB

Recommended Posts

Hi i'm very new to marine tank

I want set up a 2 feet marine tank, but i have some queries.

Hope to get some advise here.

1)Is 6mm too thin for a 2ft tank?

2)will an external ehiem liberty filter, protein skimmer and LR

sufficient to the filter system.

3)How do i setup a DSB? anyone has any articles can share?

Or can post the procedure here.

4)how much salt do i need for a 6gal tank?

5)How much light do i need?

Thanks

hello DomZZZ! welcome to SRC

1. 6mm is enuf for 2' tank

2. if u r not keeping too many fishes (< 3). it's enuf

3. hv a read of this Monaco setup. for DSB u need abt 4-6" of fine sand. presume u hv a 1' height, that leave u not much room for other things in the tank. suggest u to hv sump instead setup the DSB there

4. for a normal bag of 4kg salt, it can use upto a ~120l. depend on diff brand of salt also :whistle

5. highest u can afford. again depend whether u r keeping fish only or corals. for fishes u dun need any great light source

:peace:

6mm is fine.

I use that exact same setup. See http://aquakeeper.com/nano_setup.htm

You don't need a DSB! A small monthly water change will do it more neatly and nicely than a dsb for your tank.

Approximate amt of salt is written on the bags/boxes. get a good brand like Tropic Marin/Instant Ocean/Kent Marine. They cause less problems than cheap brands. And when you mix saltwater, mix it for at least 6 hours with a powerhead or invertebrates and maybe fish will suffer when the slightly corrosive water is added to a tank (the chemicals in the salt have not fully dissolved)

Light? If you have even the most basic corals/anemones, at least 2-3 fluorescents. If just fish, none.

Tango, why do you aggravate us? :(

6" of sand will be the best cause the sand bed will not be uniform giving you some buffer before it falls below 4".
