What do i put in a slum tank???

Recommended Posts

Well, depends on what you keep, what objectives you set, what kind of filtration system you got and what equipment you have.

I keep mine very simple.

No filter floss, no bioballs, no sandbed compartment.

Just a tank for water to enter and for my skimmer and return pumps + chiller pumps to take water from.

I use a separate anti-phosphate & GAC reactor... for a newbie, maybe a drip compartment in your sump where you can place filterbags containing GAC & phosphate removers + filter wool will work too.

If you have problems dealing with a high bioload, bioballs will help in converting toxic ammonia & nitrites to less harmful nitrates... but your nitrates will build if you don't have any kind of export mechanism or NNR system.
