Achilles Tang Posted October 21, 2004 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Well, depends on what you keep, what objectives you set, what kind of filtration system you got and what equipment you have. I keep mine very simple. No filter floss, no bioballs, no sandbed compartment. Just a tank for water to enter and for my skimmer and return pumps + chiller pumps to take water from. I use a separate anti-phosphate & GAC reactor... for a newbie, maybe a drip compartment in your sump where you can place filterbags containing GAC & phosphate removers + filter wool will work too. If you have problems dealing with a high bioload, bioballs will help in converting toxic ammonia & nitrites to less harmful nitrates... but your nitrates will build if you don't have any kind of export mechanism or NNR system.
