Need help 2 kno y my percula clown fish (x2) died.......... :(:(

Had cycled my tank for 22 days......water parameter

21 Mar

pH 7.6 -> 7.9 to 8 (add seachem marine buffer)

Temp: 27 +/- 1C

Salinity: 1.022

NH4/NH3: 0ppm

NO2: 0ppm

NO3: 0ppm (salifret)

dKH: ~ 10-11

skimmer: Venturi type

add x2 clown fish n x5 tube-worm

22 Mar

clownfish dead but tube-worm seem ok.......

Any expert can advise me what went wrong..........can it be O2 low????? my clown fish seem to stay near water surface b4 they died....

:thanks:

It could be the clown is not properly aclimate to your tank.

Personally I will rule out cyanide as clowns are easy to harvest. Also, most LFS are smart enough not to bring in fishes from supplier using cyanide. ;)

Can you share how you intro the fishes into your tank after you have bought it?

Also, how you chose your fishes and where you bought your fishes in important too.

If you have chosen fishes are that sick in the first place or if the LFS that house the fishes are simply boh chap, they will also not survive too. :D

Thanx Gouldian.

I intro the fish as follow:

(1) Leave the un-open plastic bag (fish+water) in tank for ~30mins (to stabalize the Temp)

(2) add tank water to plastic (wif fish) - add ~20% wrt plastic water vol

(3) wait ~ 5mins -then intro fish

Fish seem 2 b ok in LFS - swim around quite actively, no white spot.

feel bad tt the fish died - 1 day survival only...... :(

Clownfishes are quite hardy so I think acclimatization is not the problem.IMO the fishes have been stressed during the transportation from the LFS to your home.As the weather nowadays is so hot, try to get the LS back home as soon as possible.

hi

did you boost your ph from 7.6 to 8.0 in one shot while the clownfishes were in your tank?

my friend's introduce 2 damsels to his newly setup tank, and 1 day later both fish gone,

realize that PH swing to much 7.6 - 8.4 in 24hrs.

So I guess it's same problem since the way you introduce the fish to tank is alright.

:thanks: for the advise...

I went home straight after getting the clown so dun tink fish stress during the x'port bk home

As for pH, here's the sequence

-> pH 7.6

-> add seachem marine buffer, put plastic bag (fish n water) in tank for temperature stabalise

-> pH ~ 7.9 to 8

-> intro fish after about 1 hr

Maybe i should like the pH stabalize first before intro fish. Now my pH is ~8. Think i'll wait till the level reach 8.2 before try adding LS.

btw how to check if there is sufficient O2 in tank? mus i get the test kit for O2 as well.

Thanx again for the advise :thanks::thanks:

Are you using a chiller for your tank? Specific gravity at 1.022 need a stable temperature of 25-26 degrees. If you are not using one I would suggest that you reduce the specific gravity to 1.018 by taking out existing water and top it up with freshwater. I have done this before as it is recommended by one of the LFS. I hope you give it a thought to try it. Good Luck and don't feel despair. :peace:

hi

i'm new to the facts you just stated

can you help me by explaining what'll happen at SG1.022 if the temperature is not stable at 25-26degrees and how does lowering SG help if not using a chiller?

you said that your tank cycle for 22 days how the no3 still zero ?that mean that your tank are not cycle at all. as for the fish it may not be you who have the problem it may be the fish! how much you buy the fish for??? maybe the fish are not well quantine .

Once your PH stable , you should be able to introduce hardy fish.

Would advise you to get like Damsels if you don't like this , Clown will do also.

NO3 in 20-50 range is acceptable for FOWLR or some softies.

If NO3 goes beyond 100 , 50% water change ( with new salt ) and add bateria.

Hope this help

In fact read from books does says that sg are like PH, they do fluctuate base on temp. for the former jus as the latter do...but not sure abt the swing?? anyone can clarify?

bro. sg or specific gravity does depend on temperature when taking reading is concern.

so what is a good reading is if u temperature is stable does not fluctuate too much u are minimising ur erro in takinf the sg.

well any senior here to comment on tis.

Re-check my SW parameter today

pH 8.1 - 8.2

Temp: 27 +/- 1C

Salinity: 1.0225

NH4/NH3: 0 - 2.5 ppm

NO2: 0ppm

NO3: 0ppm (salifret)

dKH: ~ 10

If tomorrow parameter still ok, will add LS-clownfish again.

hope for the best  :)

why is your nh3 not 0 but between a range of 0 to a high value of 2.5ppm?

what test kit did you use to measure this and can you tell us how you cycled your tank?
