Pump in or out of water

Is it better to place my return pump inside or outside water? and why?

u must see whether ur pump can be both placed externally and internally. For me i would prefer placing externally. As to save space, and not much heat generated into ur tank.

Mine is an Eheim 2026 which I think can be placed externally. Just bought from another good reefer.

if ur piping permits, place externally, saves u on sump space, less heat, less headache

any bros can clarify if headloss will be a factor in this case?

placing externally will definately introduce less heat into the system. But then you might need some form of ventilation inside the cabinet.

I don't see headloss as a factor unless running it this way requires more elbow joints and length of piping.

no, the pump need to be used in the water but the skimmer can be used externally.

and make sure the connection is tight, otherwise your tank water will be drain if the external pump connection is loose.
