Yellow Rose High Fin Goby

I've just a bought a Yellow Rose High Fin Goby.

It was the last piece found in the LFS.

Realised later that this goby is usually found in pairs.

Does anyone know the differences between the male & female so in future I can purchase a "spouse" for this one that I have?

Would also appreciate anyone sharing success stories in keeping this goby.

Thanks.

Not much sexual dimorphism in this species. They do fine even if kept alone. They're not always found in pairs in nature. If you are intending to find it a partner, your chances will be better if you find one that is much differently sized compared to the one you have. If they don't fight, things are looking good. If fighting occurs, most likely they're the same ######. A pistol shrimp will make an interesting companion, however pls choose the right species. Species you could consider are Alpheus randalli and Alpheus bellulus . These species will associate with your goby without much problems. If you are fearful of potential problems caused by burrow excavation, go for A.randalli as it stays small.

Yes, Yellowbelly,

I'm facing this problem, not seeing the fish at all and likely not eating for a while, hope it will not pass on but be more active like my cute little golden neon goby that is always so visible.

Hope to find the Blue Neon Goby to add to my goby collection.

Thank you FuEl, your comments are very helpful.

Are you based in S'pore?

Which LFS in S'pore usually bring in these 2 spp of pistol shrimps, esp randalli?

Will a medium sized cleaner shrimp attack & eat the randalli shrimp?

Rgds.

Hmm...LFS I've seen selling A.randalli include Paradiz Reef, Reborn, and sometimes you could try your luck at Pasir Ris Farms. You could try Marine Life too. ;) The cleaner shrimp won't attack your pistol shrimp, the pistol shrimp can fend for itself with the exception of very large and hungry fish, or other aggressive crustaceans like mantis shrimps.

Lol..that's always been the problem of common names. Maybe from yellow nose high fin goby become yellow rose high fin goby. I just gussed it was S.nematodes. Not many species of high fin gobies available in Sg anyway.
