SRC Member ming69 Posted November 23, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 23, 2005 Hi, I'm new & in the process of filling up my 1 feet tank. I really interested in how you fit that skimmer to your hang-on filter. Also, what you put in the filter & spec for the skimer. Your tank looks great. Sure don't look like a 1 footer. SRC Member valerossi Posted November 23, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 23, 2005 U can just buy a 'cheapo' skimmer. U can dun follow his style. Anyway u still have to do water change. Protein skimmer only help to main good water parameter. But the best way to have good water parameter is to change water....
SRC Member cityofangels Posted November 23, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 23, 2005 I agree with elimmel about your clam. Clams need a minimum of T5 lights to survive. MH lights are preferable but for a 1ft tank, MH lights will merely heat up your water and you would need to get a chiller or, at least fans to cool down your tank. Even if your clam seems to be doing "well", it may not be getting the nutrients it needs. High calcium levels and strong lighting are needed. Otherwise, it will merely live off its "own nutrients" and over time, it will slowly die off. I have had clams that looked perfectly fine one day, and the very next day, I return home to see an empty shell. We don't mean to undermine you or your tank. We are only trying to advise you on the basic requirements of clams.
